#PropheticRoadwork
“``Prophets didn't get a lot of thank you notes. The prophets were those who donned the warning colors of the god of Israel and said, something has got to be repaired. The bridge we're trying to cross is out. This road is broken. We're either gonna have to turn around and go the other way, or we're gonna have to do some repair work. And much like the experience that we have, when we really get past our impatience, get past our annoyance, get past our rush and our hurry to get through the construction zone, we know it's necessary. Those patches need to be made. Those repairs need to be made. These unwelcome slowdowns necessary and important, and, actually, lives can be at stake if they're not.”

#CallOutInjustice
“There are times god still has a finger to point at us. Do we think that god is any more tolerant of people who would harm others knowingly? Those who would cause the innocent to suffer, those who would exploit others for their own gain, those who would live in plenty without regard for those who do without the basics of life, don't we think God still hears and cares? The prophets remind us that God does get angry, even a faithful god, and sends the prophets to tell us to straighten up, to fly right, to heed the road construction that needs to be made.”

#ListenToProphets
“The prophets remind us that God does get angry, even a faithful god, and sends the prophets to tell us to straighten up, to fly right, to heed the road construction that needs to be made. And so the prophets of scripture bring this sort of bad news, which is really good news. God will not let us get away with these things forever, but, also, god won't let this completely destroy us either. God will keep working. So I invite us to hear the words of the prophets, the call of god, which seems to come at the weirdest times even when we're in the middle of stuff. Understanding what lies in the heart of god is the gift of the prophets, and that's true wisdom, but a lot of us get tripped up over it.”

“And so the prophets of scripture bring this sort of bad news, which is really good news. So I invite us to hear the words of the prophets, the call of god, which seems to come at the weirdest times even when we're in the middle of stuff. Understanding what lies in the heart of god is the gift of the prophets, and that's true wisdom, but a lot of us get tripped up over it. Israel in her day turned more to other powers than trust in the god who had called them in the beginning to see them through. So I think the question would be for us, what other powers do I tend to trust in my life?”
