#DailyDrowningRising
“``Because baptism isn't about walking on water. It's about going through it. Being marked by it. Being claimed in it. Being given a promise we return to again and again and again. As I already mentioned, Luther said that baptism is a daily drowning and rising, which means that every day when life feels heavy, when the winds pick up, when the rain comes down, when we feel ourselves slipping, we don't have to pretend we're fine. We can pray the same simple prayer that Peter prayed. Lord, save me. And then trust that that hand is already reaching out, already moving toward us, already holding on.”

#JesusReachesImmediately
“And this is the part we can't miss. Immediately, Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. Immediately, it says. No hesitation, no conditions, just a hand reaching into the water. Friends, that's who Jesus is. And that is the promise Calvin received today. Not that he'll never face storms, but that Jesus will come to him in every single one of them. Not that he will never feel afraid, but that fear will never get the last word. Not that his faith will always be strong, but that God's hold on him will be.”

#SavedInGrace
“Even sinking, doubting Peter is still the one Jesus saves, still the one Jesus lifts, still the one brought back into the boat wrapped in grace. And today, we celebrate that Calvin was brought into that very same story. A story where storms are real, but so is our savior. A story where fear happens, but it never wins. A story where Jesus reaches out his hand and says, I've got you. I've got you.”

#PresenceOverPlan
“But Jesus speaks into that fear. Take heart. He says, it is I. Do not be afraid. Before anything changes, before the wind calms, before anyone feels safe, Jesus gives them this. I am here. Now it's not a fix. It's not really a plan. It it's just his presence. And somehow that is enough for Peter to try something really bold, if not a little dumb. Lord, if it is you, call me to come to you. And Jesus says, come.”
