Surrendering All: Baptism as Whole-Life Response

Baptism isn't actually something you do. Baptism is something you let be done to you. It's like, I I surrender. Also says, your sins will be forgiven. That's that's passive. Not something you do. You don't go get your forgiveness. You let yourself be given. Then you will receive the holy spirit. You don't go grab the holy spirit. You it it comes in your direction, and you go along for the ride. All these things, you just receive, but it has to start with the change of the way you think and the way you act. There is more that's going on in baptism than symbolism. No. No. Don't get your theological undies in a bundle. Alright? Because, like, there there is symbolism going on here. It's it's death to the old life. Like, Christ died for us. You're identifying with that. You come out of the water. It's resurrection to a new life, like he was resurrected. There is that symbol. it's more than just saying, okay. I'm I believe, and it was my nice day to say it. I I think father, son, and holy spirit meet you in a way that that is unlike any other day, unlike anything you would experience outside of being baptized. Just like you don't need to read your bible to be saved. You don't need to pray to be saved. You don't you don't need to be a nice person to be saved. It doesn't mean you shouldn't. You you need all that stuff to be a disciple of Jesus. So even though you don't need it to be saved, like like, this is the dumbest excuse ever. Right? You you don't need baptism to be saved, but you do need baptism to be a disciple of Jesus. Because if Jesus did it and Jesus says to do it, like, this is what disciples do. First, it was the spirit. I I saw the spirit of God coming down on him. There was a new work that was inaugurated in the life of Jesus the day he was baptized. Before that, he was just the carpenter's son. No one knew knew him. He never really did anything, but the whole story changed, and he started acting like the savior of the world. I'm surrendering to the whole plan of god, not not part of it. And that's that's what baptism showed. They're like, I'm I'm going underneath the water. I'm dead to my old life. And there's so many days you're gonna ask the question, did did I really choose Jesus? Did I really surrender to him? Maybe I didn't. Maybe I was just a tenth grade thing. Maybe I was just a seventh grade thing. Like, no. Like like, what you need is that that little picture that we're gonna frame of you getting baptized and saying, like, no. That was my date. 06/28/2026. I surrendered to him. I I know it's not fake. I got a date. I got a picture. I got a memory that goes with it. That, yes, meant something to me. And anytime I question it or doubt it, like, yeah, I'm gonna have a thousand questions about Jesus that I need to work through. But I I know I had my date with him, and I'm not going back. Don't wait for your kids to be ready to bap be baptized. Don't wait for your wife to be ready to be baptized. You'll be the first to lead the way. Even even even get that cute family picture of all, look, all five of us. We we did it on the same day. Like, no. It matters when you decide it, and it matters that you decided it for yourself. Not not so that your family would see, not that your family would have an example. They're gonna get their example. But, like, you are the young dads. Your your your choice matters.
