Baptism cracks open what once felt sealed shut. Just as removing the baptistry lid revealed warm water ready to receive lives surrendered, Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan unveiled a path for all to follow. This act isn’t about ritual but resurrection—a public declaration that old ways drown so Christ’s life might rise. The water waits not just for the prepared, but the willing. [01:15:33]

Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:13–17, ESV)

Sermon Summary

God is on the move at Guidestone Church, and that good news reaches farther than any one campus. The church gathers as a little big church to tell stories, celebrate changed lives, and remember that buildings, shirts, programs, and campuses are never the point. God uses every one of those things as tools to win people to Jesus and point people toward the victorious life found in him.

The ministries across the church show what that victory can look like in real life. Recovery ministries create space for people to find hope and victory in Jesus Christ. The Bridge connects AA, Celebrate Recovery, and life in the church. The food pantry gives meals away week after week, life groups gather people into real community, and senior adults raise money so food and gas can be available right when someone needs it.
