In a world filled with uncertainty and fear, the assurance of resurrection through Jesus Christ offers a profound anchor for our souls. John Wesley's struggle with fear in the face of death serves as a reminder of the importance of grounding our faith in the transformative power of Christ's resurrection. This is not about having a "fair summer religion" that wavers with the seasons of life, but about being deeply rooted in the promise of eternal life that Jesus offers. The resurrection is not just a future hope but a present reality that empowers us to live with courage and conviction. [02:02]
1 Corinthians 15:54-55 (ESV): "When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: 'Death is swallowed up in victory.' 'O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?'"
Reflection: In what ways can you anchor your daily life in the reality of Christ's resurrection, allowing it to transform your fears and uncertainties into hope and assurance?
Day 2: Embracing the Cost of Discipleship
The journey of discipleship is marked by sacrifice and a commitment to serve others, as exemplified by historical figures like C.T. Studd. True discipleship often requires going against societal norms and personal comfort to follow Jesus wholeheartedly. This involves a willingness to embrace simplicity and service, prioritizing the needs of others above our own desires. The cost of discipleship is not just about what we give up, but about the richness of life we gain in Christ. [18:03]
Luke 14:27-28 (ESV): "Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?"
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you feel called to step out of your comfort zone in order to serve others more fully? How can you take a practical step towards this today?
Day 3: Rebuilding Moral Foundations
The erosion of foundational truths, such as the Ten Commandments, has led to a society where negative thoughts and actions prevail. This moral decline affects families and communities, creating a culture of lovelessness and negativity. The call is to fill our hearts with God's thoughts and to speak words that elevate faith, rejecting the pervasive negativity around us. By doing so, we can begin to rebuild the moral foundations that uphold a just and loving society. [19:53]
Psalm 119:9-11 (ESV): "How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you."
Reflection: What negative thoughts or words have you allowed to take root in your life? How can you replace them with God's truth and words of faith today?
Day 4: Leveraging Media for the Gospel
In an age where modern media is often filled with negative content, there lies an opportunity to use these platforms to spread the gospel. The challenge is to maintain integrity and focus on God's message, using media to reach those who might never enter a church. This requires discernment and creativity, ensuring that our engagement with media reflects the love and truth of Christ rather than self-promotion. [30:16]
Colossians 4:5-6 (ESV): "Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person."
Reflection: How can you use your social media presence or other media platforms to share the love and truth of Christ with those who may not know Him?
Day 5: Living a Life of Compassion and Service
In a world filled with pride and self-consciousness, the call to live a life of love and service is more pressing than ever. This requires a transformation of the heart, moving away from greed and deceit, and embracing the love of Calvary that compels us to serve others selflessly. By doing so, we reflect the love and truth of Jesus, becoming zealous for the King of Kings and living lives that make a difference in the world. [35:08]
1 John 3:16-18 (ESV): "By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth."
Reflection: Who in your life is in need of compassion and service today? How can you practically demonstrate the love of Christ to them in a tangible way?
Sermon Summary
In today's reflection, we explored the profound need for spiritual awakening and the courage to stand for truth in a world that often seems to have lost its moral compass. Drawing inspiration from historical figures like John Wesley and C.T. Studd, we are reminded of the cost of discipleship and the call to live a life of integrity and service. Wesley's struggle with fear in the face of death and Studd's commitment to simplicity and service challenge us to examine our own lives and priorities. Are we living with a "fair summer religion," or are we anchored in the resurrection and life that Jesus offers?
We also delved into the societal issues that arise when foundational truths, like the Ten Commandments, are removed from public consciousness. The erosion of these moral pillars has led to a culture where negative thoughts and loveless actions prevail, affecting families and communities. The call is to fill our hearts with God's thoughts, to speak words that elevate faith, and to reject the pervasive negativity that can so easily entangle us.
Furthermore, we discussed the importance of using modern media wisely to spread the gospel. While television and other platforms can be filled with filth, they also offer opportunities to reach those who might never step into a church. The challenge is to maintain integrity and focus on God's message rather than self-promotion.
Finally, we addressed the pressing need for compassion and action in the face of global injustices and personal pride. The prayer is for God to save us from pride, self-consciousness, and greed, and to fill us with love and service. In a world where many have not heard the name of Jesus, we are called to be zealous for the King of Kings, to confess Jesus with our mouths, and to live lives that reflect His love and truth.

Sermon Clips
John Wesley wrote in his diary I have a fair summer religion but let death look me in my face and I am afraid you know of course that many of you are aware that I was looking at more than death because my heart had stopped but do you know what was the deep underlying consciousness the Lord had told me I am the resurrection the life my soul was just anchored even under anesthesia you know so folks I am the resurrection and the life so a fair summer religion is simply no [00:01:34]
now the history of this country and the history of several of these nations that followed the Word of God is that many people paid a heavy price for fighting for the truth standing for the truth very heavy price you know and one of the famous martyrs you will see their monument in Oxford as the fire was lit and was burning he felt that the hand who which had signed an earlier recantation which is okay for my old life and for my safety I will admit that I wrote and said things that are against what Rome teachers now he put out his hand into the fire and said let this hand burn first in the fire because I recanted after standing for the truth [00:06:47]
for from within out of the heart of men proceed evil thoughts adulteries fornications murders thefts covetousness wickedness deceit lasciviousness an evil eye blasphemy pride foolishness hello friends this is the heart of men and we see it all the time you would see it in yourself for out of the heart of men proceed evil thoughts well we need to go to the Lord and say Lord my heart does not have to be a flood of sewage my heart should be filled with your thoughts great thoughts positive thoughts [00:12:29]
no every negative thought weakens you a loveless thought weakens you and you know most of the talk that goes on when people sit at the family table is negative talk it's some talk about somebody else something that depresses you brings you down and children get affected they get infected more than a merely gets slightly affected they become strongly infected so a whole family is polluted by a single thought which a dad or a mother brings it or some member of the family does [00:13:34]
money talk now there was no money talk in my home in where I grew up and there is no money talk at our table you see I don't know what my children are I expect them to take care of themselves and serve the Lord that's all I care are they sacrificing to serve the Lord are they putting the kingdom of God first that's all I care I don't even know what they earn but it would be very alarming to me if they are going to be you know just measuring out doling out they're offerings like one of the grocer's measuring out butter and all the bottom margins are so careful they can tougher to give you a few extra grams [00:16:06]
I find there are very few people like Old City stud CD stud that English cricketer international cricketer who became a missionary to serve the Lord he made his wedding so simple and it was in China I believe and then when he moved to a resort place up in the mountains of India he did not want to just hobnob with the top people in society because he was an outstanding cricket player he was famous and all the big dinners and the governor's house would invite him and so on and so forth he didn't care he didn't want to hobnob with them you know it's a different mindset a very noble mindset I want to serve I want to serve the needy [00:18:03]
by banishing the Ten Commandments from our schools I suppose most of the children these days would not even know the Ten Commandments what would be the result of that kind of ignorance they don't know that stealing is sin so you will see that there's so much stealing you know actually in this country if you dropped something on the ground it would just lie there till you came back and picked it up and you know it was almost very very difficult to new anything in this country that was the mindset of people today with so many people of all sorts and the word of God being withheld from them [00:19:53]
I have seen some people have no vision about heard radio work and television one as a matter of fact this television expert who heard one of our messages in Canberra Australia when he contacted me with a letter you know it took me some months before I decided to even write him all he wanted was this message should be heard around the world that was what he wanted and then there's Australian brother he had to come of course he came at our invitation and then he had to persuade me you take so much time addressing retreats conferences going to little places now you need to find that time to lay attend to television work [00:30:16]
I find that the platform is such a dangerous place it generates such dangerous qualities now I say look Lord I want you to be seen on the platform I don't care for anything else I want you to be see that's all I want all right so all the fights the undercurrents that there are for the platform just a matter of pride you know where there is pride there is strife and every evil work so pride comes in and the Lord here tells us that out of the heart proceed pride [00:35:08]
is it only a matter of acquiring this and buying this accumulating this that and other or is it a life that flows in love and service you know service does not come easily to a proud heart I find that today you have to pay somebody something for every service oh I'm doing this so I need to be paid listen folks I've never been paired a paycheck in my life because I never asked for one hey Baba you see if there is love the love of Calvary lodged in your heart then there will be an outflow of service you do not look for recognition at all [00:35:08]
gracious father you want us to be such a great blessing at a time when this world has lost sight of the Foundation's to all morality the ten commandments Oh father they are not dead they are trying to knock down these ten pillars of truth but they know that they hardly know that they cannot knock truth down them I might go around with blinkers as though it does not exist but alas they are hurting themselves hurting their families hurting their Nations [00:37:08]
how sad Lord do we really believe that the name of Jesus is the touchstone and everyone who rejects the Lord Jesus Christ has no hope Lord our God wouldn't fearful and dreadful thought that is and so many people have not even heard the name of Jesus in this world today who most of our education we boast about our IT information technology we boast about this debt and the other Lord what is all this gloating and boosting over trifling things when the larger issues the eternal souls of people are at stake when the destiny of Nations is at stake [00:37:08]
