Sermon Clips

"Now the next day when they had come out from Bethany, he was hungry and seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves he went to see if perhaps he would find something on it when he came to it he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs." [00:01:51]

"Jesus saw a fig tree having leaves and he went to go see if he would find something on it now notice it says there that he found nothing but leaves the whole picture of this situation is that the tree was a picture of false advertising." [00:03:12]

"These kind of fig trees that are present in Israel and to this day I remember asking a tour guide in Israel about this ones these particular tour guides uh oh excuse me these particular kinds I thought of a tour guide these particular fig trees they begin to show their fruit even before they show forth their leaves." [00:03:38]

"Now it wasn't that the fig tree didn't have figs because if you notice in the text it says it was not the season for figs but Jesus cursed that fig trees now again I want to point out that there were many trees at that time that uh had leaves uh but were not cursed." [00:04:36]

"God has troubled with us when we have the appearance of fruit but not the fruit itself I think this is a very relevant thing for our day and age we live and perhaps I say this because I live in California southern California uh as I said right now I'm not in California I'm in Camden Tennessee." [00:05:53]

"Jesus doesn't approve of it when there is a profession of faith without the reality of faith Jesus doesn't approve of it when there is the talk of a believer without the walk of a believer and this is a very important principle for us to keep in mind." [00:07:46]

"Fasting is a resource of spiritual power along the same lines as prayer and we all understand that prayer gives to us some sort of resource of spiritual power but fasting also does that and I think the thing that we need to come keep in mind here is that there is great value in putting away other interests other distractions." [00:09:35]

"Don't get it wrong the power that comes to us spiritually from fasting does not come because we earn something because of our sacrifice there have been some very strange Christian groups through the centuries that have believed that um the more we afflict ourselves the more pleasing we can be to God." [00:11:01]

"All sin can bring us eternal death so there's a sense in which all sin is deadly but theologians have wanted to make the distinction that all sins aren't equal in their severity that's true all sin does not have the same consequence the sin of saying a unkind word is not as serious in its consequence as the sin of stabbing somebody with a knife." [00:17:04]

"God can be in the presence of sin let me give you the greatest example of this Jesus Christ is fully God I mean this is what the Bible says again and again and again that Jesus Christ is God now Jesus Christ being God he was around sinful people every moment of the day except when it was all by himself." [00:35:58]

"Christians do not to be fearful of curses because to have this great fear of curses is really a lack of confidence in Jesus and his protective power so if someone is troubled that maybe they have been cursed or would be cursed listen to you just take it to Jesus find refuge in his truth in his power in his grace." [00:33:38]

"Receiving communion in an unworthy manner is something we should never do and that's a sin a grievous sin receiving communion with unrepentant sin that you cherish that's not good either but receiving communion no matter what the sin if you'll bring it under the atoning work of Jesus Christ who's poured out life and blood that's a glorious thing." [00:55:12]
