Jesus is the King of kings, and His children do not have to live way beneath their privilege. The King’s authority is not a religious idea or a title to admire from a distance. His children have relationship with Him, and relationship brings benefits. God gives His people an inheritance, gifts, callings, opportunities, and places of dominion. Yet an inheritance can be truly possessed and still remain dry.
Water throughout Scripture points to the Holy Spirit. Genesis shows the Spirit brooding over the waters in the middle of darkness, chaos, and emptiness, ready for something to be birthed. Isaiah promises water for the thirsty and floods on dry ground. Jesus promises rivers of living water flowing out of the believer’s innermost being. The land, the seed, and the promise matter, but the land cannot produce what it was meant to produce without water. A calling, a family, a business, a gift, or a ministry may be real and still need the flow of the Spirit.
Achshah’s request in Judges reveals the way into that flow. Caleb had already given her land, but the land was in the desert. Her inheritance was legal, settled, and truly hers, but something was missing from the provision. She asked her father for springs of water. Her request was not ungratefulness for what she had received. Her request named what was needed for the inheritance to reach its full potential.
Achshah got down from her donkey before she asked. Her posture carried humility, urgency, and purpose. Boldness does not mean arrogance, and humility does not mean timid praying. Hebrews calls God’s people to come boldly to the throne of grace, while Achshah shows that breakthrough prayer comes with a humble heart. The Father is not angry, reluctant, or waiting to be begged into generosity. He is waiting for His children to ask.
Achshah asked specifically, and Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs. James says that people often have not because they ask not. Faith uses words, names what is missing, and asks according to God’s Word. God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that can be asked or thought. The call is to write the need plainly, ask in faith, thank God before the answer is seen, and believe for the water of the Spirit to flow through every dry place.

Key Takeaways
- 1. Inheritance needs the Spirit’s flowing water The land in Achshah’s possession was hers, but it could not produce in the desert without springs. The calling may be real, the gift may be present, and the opportunity may be legitimate, yet the anointing is still necessary. The Spirit turns dry ground into fruitful ground. [95:55]
- 2. Boldness and humility belong together Achshah got off the donkey because she understood that posture mattered. Bold asking is not demanding, arrogant, or casual before God. Humility brings the need honestly before the Father while faith refuses to pretend that He is unwilling to answer. [97:53]
- 3. Name what is missing specifically Achshah did not vaguely ask for more. She named the springs because she knew exactly what the land needed. Faith becomes active when words identify the need and bring it under the promise of God. [99:54]
- 4. The Father gives more than requested Caleb gave Achshah both the upper and lower springs. God’s provision is not limited to barely enough when His children come in faith according to His Word. His generosity reaches beyond what natural calculation can see. [101:54]
- 5. Praise God before the breakthrough appears Faith does not wait for visible proof before giving God praise. Thanksgiving declares that the King is faithful, the Father has heard, and the Spirit is able to do what human strength cannot do. Praise shifts the heart from fear over the need to confidence in God’s faithfulness.
