32s
“And, so you you pray and you think about this a lot. Of course, Jesus, he mounts his throne to shouts of joy in heaven. Right? But not in order to be away from us, but in order to come closer to us. Right? If Jesus is on earth in his flesh, even his glorified flesh, right, wouldn't we be tempted to, like, try to make a pilgrimage to wherever he is? Right? Or to ask let's just go ask Jesus in his glorified flesh wherever he might be in the world and find out what he says.”
38s
“guides the church from heaven through his presence in the Eucharist and through his holy spirit, the spirit of love that he's given to each one of us. And we can, of course, always call upon the lord in our prayer. We begin to experience, like, a little bit more as we get better at praying like that, just the guidance of the lord in each moment of each of our days. And this is really what the ascension is about. So that we wouldn't be fixed on a place in this world, but we'd be fixed and our eyes would be fixed on heaven where the lord is seated at the right hand of the father. Where we are all going.”
36s
“And we haven't been abandoned. As a matter of fact, we've been given the spirit by which Jesus promised you would do these great things that I do. You will do even greater things if you trust in me. And you're like, wow. That's pretty powerful. Like, we could do even greater things because you see, and you will see what happens next week when the apostles receive the holy spirit. They go out and they begin to do the same things Jesus did. Heal the blind. Right? Heal the deaf and the sick. Raise the dead. I mean, they did all the things that the lord was doing. His spirit is still powerfully at work today in our church,”
32s
“And it's a beautiful gift to be reminded of today as we celebrate the ascension, right, which is just these days that Jesus is taken up into heaven before he sends the Holy Spirit. And it's the power of the Holy Spirit. But we might ask ourself in the Ascension, like, what is this all about? What is this moment where Jesus is drawn up into heaven again? Does it feel like a bit of an abandonment? Does it feel, like, why why is he going away? Why doesn't he stay?”
