#FaithInGodShield
“When we're called to take up the shield of faith, we're called to lay hold of God himself. Amen. To lay hold of God himself. You see, we don't have faith in faith. We don't have faith in faith. We don't go around thinking, well, as long as I believe that faith will work for me, then when the enemy shoots his arrows at me, I will be just fine. No. Our faith is not in faith. The object of our faith is God. God himself is our shield.”

#JoyInChristNotSin
“Where do I find pleasure? Where do I find joy? Not in my sin. In Christ. the more we believe that, the better we hold our shield up so that when those fiery arrows of temptation come, we say, yeah. I've seen that before. I've even fallen for that one before. That one struck deep. But I can tell you based on past experience and based on the word of God that I'm not going to find the satisfaction that that arrow promises. In fact, that thing brings death. That thing's designed to destroy me and light me on fire.”

#LockShieldsTogether
“As a church, God has given us one another so that we will lock our shields together. See, the Christian life is personal, but it's not private. We have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, But it's not private. We're called into community with God's children, with our brothers and sisters in Christ. And the enemy loves to send that lie all the time into believers. I don't need the church. Why do you think he wants you to believe that? So that you don't lock your shield with other brothers and sisters in Christ. Roman soldiers would lock their shields together so that as the arrows came, they were protecting themselves and everyone else around them.”

#BorrowOthersFaith
“Maybe you're being attacked right now. You know it. You could name it. If we're having a one on one on one conversation, and you know your faith is weak. And you would say, pastor, I don't have the faith to raise a shield right now. We've all been there. We've been in those moments and in those seasons where we needed to borrow somebody else's shield, where we need to borrow somebody else's faith for just a few minutes, where we needed to get behind the strong shield of the Lord that someone else is holding up for us. And maybe that's where you are today. Maybe here and you're going, I don't have it right now, but I know I need to.”

#NoMoreGuiltAndShame
“arrow of guilt and shame has a message, doesn't it? And the message is you're too dirty to be forgiven. Jesus's cleansing and forgiveness is meant for those people who don't need it as much as you do. You're too dirty. It's sent to ignite unbelief about the sufficient of Christ. Satan's design, his desire is to keep believers stuck in guilt even after we've been set free, even after the guilt has been removed. Satan's hope is to keep us from running to God and to keep us in the bondage of the guilt and shame of our sin.”

#PrayBeforePanic
“Taking up the shield, raising the shield when the arrow of fire when the arrow of fear and anxiety comes against us is to believe the truth that God is with us, that he loves us, that he'll never leave us. So what's the step we should take? When the enemy rears back and fires that arrow of fear and anxiety. Maybe we write this down today. Before I panic, I'm going to pray. Before I panic, I'm going to stop and pray. I'm going to entrust my need and my reality to my father who cares for me. And then I'm going to do the next faithful thing.”

#DontGrowWeary
“Maybe that arrow of weariness and discouragement makes us believe things like obedience to God isn't worth it. That we just can't keep going. This shows up in marriages all the time. This person that I'm married to isn't getting it together. It's not worth it anymore. I'm better off moving on. The enemy loves to shoot that right into the heart of a married couple. How do we raise the shield? I think of Galatians six verse nine when Paul writes, let us not grow weary of doing good. For in due season, not in the season we want, but in due season, we will reap if what? We do not give up.”

#PersevereNotInstantResults
“I think we have to stop and and recognize that to move forward in a season of discouragement, to move forward in a season of weariness, we need to stop measuring faithfulness by immediate results. have to stop. We're so accustomed in our culture to saying, I planted the seed yesterday. I wanna eat from the fruit today. It's not how things work typically. You plant. You water. God brings the growth. We don't measure faithfulness by immediate results. We keep obeying. We ask God for new strength. We take the next faithful step in the thing that he's calling us to do. The enemy wants us to be discouraged and weary. Why? So that we'll sit down and stop working.”
