Some things feel awkward until the day you need them. The life jacket seems bulky, the brake fluid seems minor—until the ocean swells or the stoplight turns red. In the same way, the armor of God is irreducibly complex; take off one piece and you become vulnerable. Beware the halo effect and Dunning–Kruger; being strong in one area can blind you to another where you really need help. Choose humility, and put on every piece, every day, because the day will come when you’re grateful you did. [44:20]
Ephesians 6:10–13
Draw your strength from the Lord and from His mighty power. Put on every piece of the armor God provides so you can hold your ground against the devil’s strategies. Your struggle isn’t against people, but against unseen rulers, authorities, and dark powers at work in this world. So, take up the full armor, and when the hard day hits, you will be able to resist—and after you’ve done everything, still be standing.
Reflection: Which piece of God’s armor do you most tend to neglect because it feels inconvenient, and what is one simple way you will “put it on” each morning this week?
We live in a time where “I feel” often trumps “God said,” but feelings make a poor steering wheel. Ancient faith says Scripture and Jesus define reality—principalities, light and darkness, truth and lies. Choosing ancient faith means letting God’s word, not moods, be the authority in your life. It also means asking God to reveal blind spots before they grow into fractures. Let truth lead; let feelings follow. [53:21]
Psalm 139:23–24
Search me, God—look into my heart. Test my thoughts and motives. If there’s anything in me that grieves You or leads me off course, expose it and guide me back onto the path that lasts forever.
Reflection: Where have your feelings recently overridden Scripture, and what would it look like to let God’s searchlight evaluate that one area this week?
There are seasons when the best thing you can do is not run, not perform, not conquer—but simply stand. Keep praying. Keep opening your Bible. Keep loving your people. Keep showing up. The armored saint can withstand; God promises a way to endure, even when your soul feels like a building that survived the quake but is shaky inside. Sometimes, by grace, just standing is victory enough until the peace returns. [01:10:50]
1 Corinthians 10:13
No test or temptation has hit you that isn’t common to others. God can be trusted; He won’t let the pressure exceed what His grace in you can bear. With every temptation, He provides a path of escape so you can keep going and endure it.
Reflection: If today feels like an evil day, what is one small, faithful action you will keep doing to “stand,” even if nothing seems to change right away?
In Jesus, you’ve been given a new heart and a new Spirit—the deepest desire of that heart is real covenant love, real community, real holiness. The enemy waves cheap thrills to get you to trade deep joy for a quick buzz that never satisfies. When tempted, stop and pray; think deeply about what you most want; call a friend who will remind you of your identity and your future. This isn’t gritting your teeth; it’s living from a new “wanter” that loves what God loves. Most times, that pause will tip you toward wisdom and freedom. [01:04:38]
Ezekiel 36:25–27
I will wash you clean from your uncleanness and idols. I will give you a new heart, and I will place a new Spirit within you. I’ll remove the hard, unresponsive heart and give you a tender one, and I will put My Spirit in you so you actually walk in My ways.
Reflection: Name one “cheap thrill” that most often hijacks your attention; who will you text or call when it hits this week, and what do you want them to remind you of about your identity?
You were not meant to carry heavy loads alone. Sometimes breakthrough begins when you raise a hand, let others lay a hand on your shoulder, and receive prayer. In the storm, the house on the rock still stands—because Jesus whispers over you, “You are My beloved; I am with you.” As we share burdens, hope rises, and weary knees strengthen again. You are not under the reign of sin; you are free in Christ, and together, we can walk it out. [01:14:55]
Galatians 6:2
Carry one another’s burdens, and in doing so you are fulfilling the way of life Jesus calls His people to.
Reflection: Who is one trusted believer you can invite to help carry a current burden, and how will you open that conversation this week?
Glory belongs to Jesus alone, whose faithfulness sustains weak people and gives strength for the long road. From Ephesians 6:10-13 comes a call to put on the whole armor of God, not a piece or two. The armor is irreducibly complex—remove one component and vulnerability opens. Like a life jacket that feels awkward until the boat springs a leak, the practices of grace feel inconvenient until the day they are essential. Humans have blind spots; the halo effect and Dunning–Kruger remind that competence in one area doesn’t eliminate weakness in another. Scripture names the same pattern in David, Peter, Abraham, and Moses. Wise disciples ask daily for searchlight grace: “Search me, O God” (Psalm 139:23-24).
The source of protection is God himself; authority must be anchored in Him. Culture has shifted from ancient (Scripture) to modern (science) to postmodern (self). Today “I feel” often rules where “I believe” or “I know” once did. But disciples must reclaim ancient faith: truth before feelings, Scripture before self. God promises that temptation is escapable (1 Corinthians 10:13) and that sin no longer has dominion (Romans 6). New covenant realities matter now: a new heart, a new Spirit, a new “wanter” (Ezekiel 36). The battle is often the trade of deep joy for cheap thrills—pornography instead of covenant intimacy, surface bar talk instead of sharpening community. The way out is simple and concrete: stop, pray, think deeply about what is most desired in Christ, and call a trusted friend.
Evil days come—seasons of intense spiritual attack and the slow erosion of routine. Many stumbled on their evil day; others stood. When collapse threatened—bereavement, doubt, intellectual assault—the call was not to sprint but to stand: keep praying, keep reading, keep loving, keep serving. In time, God granted peace. The church is given to bear one another’s burdens; honest prayer, hands laid in love, and truth spoken in season share the load. At the table and in the waters, disciples receive strength to live as free people, yielding their members to righteousness. Joseph, Daniel, the three in the fire, Paul, and above all Jesus stood in their evil day—by the same armor offered now.
Irreducibly complex And there's reasons why You've got to have all the pieces So there's some things That humans do One of them is this It's called the halo effect The halo effect is this It's if something is If someone is good at something Let's say they're good at business Or finances Or construction Or teaching Or leading Or communication Or parenting Or they've got great style The halo effect is You're so good at this one thing You must be good at everything But it's not true

So it's very important to realize I need help I need every piece Because I've got blind spots Might be good at some stuff But they're somewhere that I need help So David Incredible warrior Incredible poet Writes the majority of the Psalms Passionate for the Lord Had a blind spot And that blind spot Was for women

Emotions have taken over the steering wheel In most people's lives When it should be reason and truth But feeling is dominant So the rest of this text is going to Require this of you and me To be an ancient faith kind of person That says the way that God has laid out the world With principalities and powers The way that the world really is With a kingdom of darkness And a kingdom of light The way that the world really is This text is going to require you and me to say That's the way things really are I have an ancient faith in God And in scripture It's going to require that It's the whole armor of God Belongs to him And it says something about this armor It says when you're wearing it You can You will be able You may be able to withstand

An armored saint Can withstand the attack of the enemy The temptations of the flesh And the stuff the world throws at us And I believe that Not just because of this text I believe it because the Bible teaches it Over and over That a believer can withstand So listen to these chapters These verses 1 Corinthians 10 13

In the forgiveness of sins And we should It is brilliant It is amazing The modern church rejoices That the prodigal son Can be taken from the pigsty And welcomed home by the father And a gigantic party thrown from him That is unbelievable The modern church rejoices Rightfully so That Jesus leaves the 99 And goes after the one It is awesome We love the fact that Jesus is called The friend of sinners Wonderful

But the modern church Should equally rejoice That a believer Has been set free from sin And an armored up believer Can withstand So I am a new covenant Christian It means this When you believe in Jesus The moment you believe in Jesus Your old heart is taken away And you are given a new heart And the power of God's spirit
