Councils like Nicaea fought to preserve them. To stand firm, believers must declare these books as their non-negotiable standard, rejecting any additions or subtractions. John says very plainly that antichrist is coming, and even now many antichrists have come. The antichrist will be cruel, violent, suppressive, and oppressive, and he will demand worship from the whole world. The spirit of antichrist is already in the world wherever the identity, incarnation, lordship of Jesus, or the authority of the 66 books is distorted.

False movements attack the center, and the center of Christian faith is Jesus. Oneness Pentecostalism, Christadelphians, Arianism, Jehovah’s Witnesses, liberal theology, universalism, pluralism, Mormonism, new apostolic claims, hyper prophetic movements, progressive Christianity, prosperity gospel, New Age spirituality, Gnostic revival, and many others all move in the same direction. All philosophies, all isms, all beliefs, and all claims must be measured against this book, and if they do not reconcile with this book, they cannot be accepted. Many people shed blood for this Bible, and William Tyndale was burned rather than deny the truth of these books. Therefore, when a Mormon, Jehovah’s Witness, or any false doctrine comes to the door, the first question must be whether the 66 books are accepted as God’s final authority.

The second antidote is to know the Bible, not only claim its authority. The three principles are simple: read the Bible, reread the Bible, and read it again and again. An empty mind cannot bring out the Word of God, just as an empty pen drive cannot display anything on the screen. The Bereans searched the Scriptures, and believers must not be parrots singing great songs while sitting inside the hunter’s net.

The third antidote is to anchor in the true Christ of the Bible. John gives a wonderful picture of Jesus because John saw the Lamb, the throne, the elders, the cherubim, and the heavenly things. The fourth antidote is to anchor in the Holy Spirit. Jesus ministered in the power of the Spirit, and therefore powerless, wishy washy Christianity cannot stand against antichrist spirit. He is inside, twenty four seven, giving words in opposition, courage in danger, and power that can even turn the tables so that those who come to convert may be converted to Jesus.
