America Needs God: A Call to Prayer and Revival

America stands as a blessed country, a beautiful country, and a country in trouble. America has spacious skies, amber waves of grain, and purple mountain majesty, but America still needs God. America needs prayer, not just a little two minute prayer, but real prayer on knees, seeking God’s face. Liberty is precious, and liberty should never be taken for granted.

Paul says, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” Second Corinthians 3 sets the old way beside the new way. The old way had laws etched in stone, sacrifices repeated year after year, and glory on Moses’ face that was already fading away. The old way had moral laws, ceremonial laws, and civil laws, and that whole system showed how bad sin really is. God had a better way.

Hebrews 10 says the old sacrifices were only a shadow, a dim preview of better things to come. The blood of bulls and goats could not take away sin. Those sacrifices kept reminding worshipers of sin year after year. Christ came and said, “I have come to do your will,” and Christ canceled the first covenant in order to put the second into effect. Jesus became the perfect sacrifice, the perfect Savior, and the giver of a perfect salvation.

The new way gives confidence. The new covenant gives boldness. The believer is secure in Christ because the Holy Spirit seals the believer until the day of redemption. Satan cannot pluck a child of God out of the Father’s hand, but Satan will sure try to steal joy, desire, prayer, and hunger for the Word. The Christian may feel shaken at times, but Christ remains faithful, and the Spirit of the Lord remains present.

Liberty in Christ does not mean doing whatever the flesh wants. Liberty means freedom from the bondage and weight of sin. Grace means the curse of the law no longer rules over the redeemed. The Spirit gives freedom to worship, freedom to stand secure, and freedom to live under the blood of Jesus Christ.

Second Chronicles 7:14 gives a promise to God’s people. Humility, prayer, seeking God’s face, and turning from wicked ways open the way for God to hear, forgive, and restore the land.
