#FleeSexualTemptation
“``A sexual sin isn't worse than or different than any other sin, but our response to it is. Isn't that wild? It's the only sin in scripture that we're told to run from, to flee. Get rid of your smartphone that's giving you dumb access to pornography. Lose that woman's phone number who isn't your wife and tell your wife about her. Run. Flee. emotionally flirting with that person that isn't your spouse. Quit sitting with the man who isn't your husband at lunch because he listens to you and understands you. Flee. Whatever it takes, flee. Surrender your response.”

#RunFromYouthfulPassions
“Number one, youthful passions, Paul says, without wasting any time, flee. Avoid it entirely. Elude it. Escape from it. Run like your life depends on it. Contrast that with James four, resist the devil and he will flee from you. Too many Christians are approaching sexual temptation through a James four, well, I just have to resist the devil and this sin will run from me. No. You run. You flee. Turn tail. Get the heck out of dodge.”

#GospelTransformsAndEndures
“Just as the Old Testament word of God sustained Israel through seasons of suffering and hardship, so it is with you and I and God's word made flesh, Jesus. The gospel of Jesus Christ is not simply words on a page. It is a powerful encounter with a living savior. The tomb is empty, and he invites us to be in him and to be refashioned and reborn. This poem again in verse 11, die with Christ, endure, reign with him. Don't be faithless. To follow Jesus well, to to go all in, and to live surrendered is to endure, to see it through, to remain faithful. The only way that I know how to endure and stay faithful to Jesus, especially when seasons are hard, is through keeping myself whole and renewed through the reading of God's word.”

#NoMoreNoviceFaith
“A novice is a beginner who lacks experience, views tasks as a collection of isolated facts and rules. An expert has deep, organized knowledge, and uses intuition and patterns to solve problems quickly. Paul's asking you to the church in Edmonton today. He's asking us not to be, people that settle. Don't settle for being a novice in your faith. Don't settle. You're like, well, I've only been a Christian for three years. Yeah. In in scriptural timelines, some would call you mature. Three years is a long time to follow Jesus. The disciples believed in Christ as messiah for less than three years, and God used them to flip the then known world upside down. What are you waiting for? Why are you procrastinating? Why are you trying to take a shortcut? In other words, surrender your careful study.”

#BeAllInDontProcrastinate
“And then there's this hard sobering reality that Paul brings up. Do this work, especially when it's really hard. Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. There's actually three different pictures that Paul uses. A soldier, an athlete, and a farmer. And through all three, our first thought for today is church, go all in. Surrender your procrastination and your shortcuts. Can I challenge you today? You're procrastinating. In your walk of faith, you're waiting. You're waiting. I don't know what you're waiting for, but you're waiting until you're good enough. You're waiting until you know enough. You're procrastinating. You're waiting until you stop sinning, whatever that sin is in your life. You're you're waiting. And as such, you're in disobedience to Paul's challenge to be a person of faith and trusted with the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

#HonorableVesselLiveGentle
“Because you are an honorable, set apart, holy vessel for the master's good use and you're not a pooper scooper, don't even enter into the fight. Have nothing to do with it. It's foolish. Be kind to every person regardless of their position. Be gentle. Let your life, your actions, and your words quietly teach about Jesus and his kingdom. Patiently endure evil. Surrender your response. Surrender your response to temptation and to sin. Surrender your procrastination and your court your shortcuts. Surrender your source material. Surrender your careful study.”

#StudyScriptureDiligently
“Can I ask you to submit your careful study of scripture? Can I ask you to sit under the teaching of God's word in a room like this and then go home and fact check? Invest in a great concordance. Invest in some great commentaries of scripture. Study. Read a passage and then ask the holy spirit to help you understand how how cross references and parallel passages work to help bring full meaning to a word or a phrase. Don't take a word out of context. Surrender your careful study of scripture.”

#AvoidIgnorantControversies
“And then ignorant controversies. Paul says, this is gonna be a problem in the world. Have nothing to do with them. They're foolish. But I have an opinion. I don't care. Have nothing to do with them. They're foolish. Respond with kindness to all people you agree with and people you disagree with. Respond with kindness. With everyone, respond with gentleness. Quietly teach. Be willing to suffer the consequences of disagreement.”
