#HeartOfTheFather
“``Fifth point, David shows us the heart of the father. Perhaps this verse, oh my son, Absalom, my son, my son, Absalom, if only I had died and said to you. Powerful verse, like every parent, again, every healthy, loving, good parent, would take the pain of their child, take the pain of a friend, like, want to absorb that somehow. David couldn't. We can't. We can put a band aid on a boo boo and maybe that will work, console them, but we can't really take that on, but there is somebody that can. David said, oh, I wish I could have died instead of you, and and Jesus, the better David said, I will. In fact, I already did. Right? Romans five eight says, while we were still sinners, some translations, while we were still enemies of God, Christ died for us.”

#WelcomeTheRepentant
“We know the story of the prodigal son, Luke chapter 15, that the prodigal this this boy, you know, wants all of his inheritance, goes out, he spends it all, and he he's afraid to come home because he knows his father's gonna, you know, not receive him, and yet the father, when he comes home, he says, come. He gives him the robe, the ring, the sandals, you're my son, welcome home. Shows us that the heart of the father is to receive the rebel back home, the one who's repentant. That's the gospel. The difference between Absalom and David is that Absalom refused to turn to God, where we see that David, even in his sin, even in destruction, a life that's not perfect, he would be a man called a man after God's own heart. Why is that? Not because he was perfect, but because he would turn to the Lord constantly. And that's what God calls for us to do, is to turn to him constantly.”

#PrideLeadsToDestruction
“Because of his pride, that's really kind of the thing, is his pride was so great that the thing that he loved the most is going to be the thing that brings him death. And even more than that, Absalom was one who built a he built a monument to himself. He was so prideful. He's like, oh, that's yeah, I'm handsome. That's me. Right? And now we'll find that his life, they they after he's Joab spears him to death, makes sure he's dead. He spears him three times against, David's instruction of dealing gently. Right? He's buried in a heap of stones. A guy that built up a stone monument to himself is now literally buried with stone. Pride will bring destruction. It may not be as gruesome as that, but it certainly will bring unresolved relationships and bitterness, unforgiveness. What you sow, you will reap. Right?”

#BitternessSowsDecay
“The spiritual failures that come don't happen all of a sudden. It takes time. It begins with secret offenses, hidden bitterness, pride, unconfessed sin, believing lies believing lies that maybe your parents have told you, or maybe a teacher told you, or maybe a spouse, maybe a child, maybe even yourself. You're believing the lies rather than the truth, and there's bitterness that's that's at root there. When you plant an orange seed, kids, you get an apple. okay. When you plant grapes, you get grapefruit. No. Whatever you plant, whatever you sow, you're going to reap. The scripture tells us that that's what happens in Galatians. Whatever a man sows, he's going to reap. If you sow bitterness, you're going to reap this. And this is where Absalom's life is. He's sown a lot of bitterness. There's these offenses that just man, it's just growing. Right?”

#InnerRootsOfRebellion
“Outward rebellion always begins with something happening on the inside. It's the heart. God says, that man looks on the outward, he's handsome, but God looks on the inward. Where is your heart? The problem with Absalom is that he didn't ever deal with the things in his heart. And in today's culture, we don't take time to deal with the heart. Like, we just we just keep piling through life. Right? We don't give we don't give time for grieving, we don't give time for processing, we don't give time for conversation about things that happen in our life, we just don't reflect about much.”

#SinHurtsMoreThanYouThink
“He should be rejoicing. The guy that wants to take over his kingdom, the one that tried to kill him, is dead, and yet David shows us really the heart of of the father. Before we get there, point number four, sin always hurts more people than we expect. Absalom dies, David wins, there's no celebration. In fact, as we move in through the end of the series, we'll find there's mourning, many people died, families are divided, nations have suffered. Here's the deal. We can go all the way back to David and Bathsheba. That was the decision that David made. We can take his his life all the way back there and just see that that just that path of destruction coming.”

#DailyNeedForTheGospel
“Yes. That is about salvation, but I also believe it's something the gospel we need every day. We need to be saved every day from our divided heart because it's divided constantly. It could be unforgiveness in your heart, it could be unresolved relationships, it could be building your kingdom here on earth, like hanging tightly monetary things, your house, your car, your bank account. God wants us to surrender. It could be the relationship where you go, there's no way I'm going to give forgiveness to that person. They don't deserve it.”

#PrideBecomesDownfall
“Write this down. Whenever we resist God's word because of our feelings or because of advice that others may give us that are is not good, we begin walking in this path of assailant when we allow pride to be puffed up in us and we think we know what's best. Ever been there? Oh, god. You don't understand how much they've hurt me. Oh, lord. You you could you would never require this of me if if only you just knew. Right? Like he doesn't know. Right? When we think we know better than God, we're walking that path of destruction.”
