The Tower of Babel shows humanity staying put, building for its own glory, and trying to create its own way to heaven. The blessing also reaches beyond Abraham’s family to all the families of the earth.

Christ is the ultimate seed of the woman, the one who crushed the serpent’s head at the cross. Jesus leaves heaven’s comfort, takes the cursed name of sinner, carries sin, shame, and death, and gives his people his righteous name as sons and daughters of God. The cross shows that following Jesus is costly, but refusing him is more costly still. Christ gave up everything because losing his people was too costly for him. Christ’s empty tomb gives faith its footing when circumstances preach darkness, guilt, and shame.
