Day 1: Stay Connected to the Vine: Life Flows from Jesus
The Christian life is not about striving in our own strength to produce fruit, but about remaining connected to Jesus, the true Vine. When you abide in Him, His life, power, and nature flow through you, naturally producing the fruit God desires. The pressure is not on you to manufacture results; your role is to stay connected, to rest in Him, and to let His life flow. Without Him, we can do nothing, but with Him, all things are possible. [00:50]
John 15:5 (ESV) “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
Reflection: In what area of your life have you been striving on your own instead of simply staying connected to Jesus? What would it look like today to rest in Him and let His life flow through you?
Day 2: The Simplicity of the Gospel: Christ Alone
The message of Jesus is profoundly simple: it is the finished work of Christ, plus nothing. Human traditions and preferences often complicate the gospel, but at its core, it is about Jesus—He is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. When you keep your focus on Christ alone, you are protected from confusion and deception, and you experience the freedom and clarity that comes from the simplicity that is in Christ. [07:46]
John 14:6 (ESV) Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Reflection: Are there any traditions, opinions, or “add-ons” that have complicated your faith? How can you return to the simple truth of Christ alone today?
Day 3: New Creation: The Old Has Gone, the New Has Come
Through Jesus, the last Adam, you are not just improved or refurbished—you are made entirely new. When you are in Christ, you become a new creation; the old is gone, and all things are made new. This new identity is not based on your past, your family history, or your failures. You are now part of a new creation race, joined to God’s very life and nature, free from the power of sin and the limitations of the past. [20:38]
2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Reflection: What old labels or past failures do you need to let go of in light of your new identity in Christ? How can you walk in the reality of being a new creation today?
Day 4: United with Christ: Crucified, Buried, and Raised with Him
Your union with Christ means that His death was your death, His burial your burial, and His resurrection your resurrection. You are no longer a slave to sin or its byproducts—addiction, shame, sickness, or defeat. The old self has been put to death, and you are called to walk habitually in newness of life, setting your mind on things above and living out the victory Jesus has won for you. [31:44]
Romans 6:4 (ESV) We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
Reflection: What is one area where you still feel bound by your old self? How can you intentionally “walk in newness of life” in that area today?
Day 5: Abundant Life: Living Free and Fruitful in Christ
Jesus came not to give you more religion, but to give you life—His own abundant, eternal life. As you stay connected to Him, you are no longer defined by generational curses, addictions, or hopelessness. The life and nature of God now flow through you, empowering you to overcome every obstacle and to live in hope, peace, and victory. Communion is a reminder of this new covenant and the freedom you have in Christ. [13:13]
John 10:10 (ESV) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
Reflection: Where do you need to experience the abundant life Jesus offers? What step can you take today to receive and walk in His freedom and fullness?
Sermon Summary
In John 15:5, Jesus declares, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He that abides in me and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit. For without me you can do nothing.” This simple, profound truth is the foundation of our life in Christ. The Christian journey is not about striving in our own strength or adding layers of religious complexity. It is about staying connected to Jesus, the true vine, and allowing His life to flow through us. The gospel is not complicated; it is the finished work of Christ—plus nothing. We often make it more difficult than it is, adding our own preferences, traditions, and requirements, but the heart of the matter is abiding in Him.
Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 2 remind us that our faith must rest not in human wisdom or charisma, but in the power of God. The simplicity of Christ is easily lost when we become distracted by personalities, denominational differences, or our own efforts to “do more.” Jesus Himself said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me.” There is no other way, no alternative path, and no need for add-ons. If we remain in Him, His life—His very nature—flows through us, producing fruit that is consistent with who He is.
The story of the two Adams—Adam in the garden and Jesus, the last Adam—shows us that our old life, marked by sin and death, has been brought to an end in Christ. Through His death and resurrection, we are made new creations, no longer bound by the failures, addictions, or generational curses of the past. Our identity is now rooted in Christ, not in our old nature. Communion is a powerful reminder of this reality: we proclaim His death, celebrate our union with Him, and remember that His victory is our victory.
We are called to walk in the newness of life, abandoning excuses and embracing the truth that we have been crucified, buried, and raised with Christ. The Christian life is not performance-based; it is covenant-based, rooted in what God has accomplished through Jesus. Our part is to stay connected, to rest in His finished work, and to let His life bear fruit in us. In this, we find freedom, hope, and the power to overcome anything that comes our way.
Key Takeaways
1. The Simplicity of the Gospel: The heart of the Christian faith is not found in religious complexity or human wisdom, but in the finished work of Christ. We often complicate what God has made simple, adding unnecessary requirements or traditions. True spiritual life flows from simply abiding in Jesus, trusting that His life will produce fruit in us as we remain connected to Him. [01:18]
2. The Danger of Disconnection: When we drift from Christ, we cut ourselves off from the source of life, truth, and power. Unforgiveness, replaying past hurts, or allowing doubt and fear to take root can quickly disconnect us from the vine. Protecting our hearts and minds, and intentionally staying connected to Jesus, is essential for spiritual vitality and fruitfulness. [10:39]
3. The New Creation Reality: In Christ, we are not merely improved versions of our old selves; we are entirely new creations. The old Adamic race, with its failures and curses, has been brought to an end. Our identity is now rooted in Christ’s victory, and we are free from the power of sin, addiction, and generational patterns. This truth calls us to live from a place of freedom and possibility. [20:22]
4. Communion as a Declaration of Freedom: Coming to the Lord’s table is more than a ritual; it is a proclamation of our union with Christ in His death and resurrection. We remember that His victory is our victory, and we lay down every excuse, every failure, and every burden at His feet. Communion is a moment to reaffirm our connection to the vine and to receive afresh the life and freedom He offers. [35:41]
5. Living Habitually in Newness of Life: The call is not to strive in our own strength, but to walk daily in the reality of our new life in Christ. This requires intentionality—renewing our minds, surrounding ourselves with people of faith, and refusing to accept old patterns or limitations. The secret is not hidden: it is Jesus Himself, the way, the truth, and the life, empowering us to live victoriously as we stay connected to Him. [32:44]

Sermon Clips
The vine life will flow to the branches if the branches will just stay connected. The vine life will flow. Praise the Lord. And I was thinking this morning, there's a simplicity to the gospel that's been uh well, I hate to say it this way, but I'm going to. The simplicity of our gospel has been complicated and confused by us. takes smart people to confuse it. And so we got all these add-ons, you know, all these different things when it comes to the gospel of Jesus. And really, the Bible is very clear that it's the finished work of Christ plus nothing else. Period. End of discussion. [00:01:07]
The best thing any of you can do is lock yourself away from everybody for a little bit and just immerse yourself in the word of God and find out for yourself what the Lord is saying. And and the same is true for me. If anything that I say does not line up with the word of God, then you need to pull me off to the side and say, "Hey, we need to talk to you for a minute." Uh because I count on you doing that. All right. [00:02:29]
I have found it very helpful to think of myself as a branch connected to the to the vine or to the tree. And so that took a lot of pressure off of me because I don't have to worry about producing fruit because the fruit automatically grows on the end of those branches if the branch is connected to the tree because the life comes from the tree or from the trunk up from the roots and it just flows automatically. So really, my job is to just stay connected to the right tree. [00:02:55]
Paul said, I determine not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. Wow. Paul did not say, "I didn't know anything else." He just said, 'I determined not to know anything else.' And then he says in verse three, "And I was with you in weakness and in fear, in a much trembling." Verse four, "And my speech in my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in a demonstration of the spirit and power." How come, Paul? So that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men or in dynamic personalities or in charisma, but in the power of God. [00:04:02]
Notice that simplicity that is in Christ. It is so simple that we miss it. In fact, I know the way I am. I'm I'm in I'm kind of inclined to say, "Well, there's got to be more that I could do. It can't be that easy, Lord." For an example, a day off. Supposed to Mondays are supposed to be my day off. Forget it. Unless I get out of dodge, I don't get a day off. And so, we're getting out of dodge tomorrow and doing some shopping. But here's the thing. Sometimes a day off, what is the day off? What a what does a day of rest mean to you? Rest. [00:05:51]
You can't do more for your salvation. There's nothing more you can do except receive it and say thank you and rest in it. And stay connected so the fruit will grow. That's hard enough to do, isn't it? Got awful quiet. You thinking or did I lose you? The simplicity. There's simplicity. There's no complication and there's no confusion. We did that. One of the best examples, and I'm going to We got plenty of time, but it's going to go quick, so just keep your seatelt fastened. [00:06:39]
Jesus said, "I am the way. I am the truth and I am the life." Watch this. No man comes to the father but by me. I mean, that's pretty uncomplicated. And if we would just stick with that, that would help us. He's the way. If I stay with if I stay with his program, I'm never going to get lost because he's the way. I don't have to worry about being deceived. If I stick with Jesus, he's the truth. So So if I'm sticking with the Lord and everybody else around me is all whacked out of their minds, I'm going to stick with the Lord because they're the ones that are wrong and I'm not. [00:07:57]
If we're connected to the life, to the truth, and to the way, then what do you think is going to be flowing through us? Stuff. Stuff that goes contrary to the world. And it's going to try to pull you out of that. But you have to stay connected because I know what's going on around here. I know what's happening. I don't always tell you everything I know, but I know what's happening because I have a connection to the truth. And I maintain that connection. I do the very best that I can by protecting my thoughts, protecting my attitude, protecting my heart. [00:10:01]
One of the things that'll get you disconnected quicker than anything is uh unforgiveness and replaying the hurt over and over and over. Next thing you know it, you're all sour and even the mention or the thought of somebody gets you all cranky. It's like, yeah, that doesn't work very well. So, be very careful. Be very diligent to protect your heart for out of it are the issues of life. So, Jesus is life. He said, "I'm the way, the truth, and the life." [00:10:41]
So if that's flowing, then what can't you overcome? What can't you do? What obstacle are you not able to I I mean, here's the thing. Just go ahead and fill in the blank. There's no such thing as an impossibility for me. There's no such thing as a hopeless case for me. And I don't have to figure everything out. I just have to obey what the spirit of God tells me to do. That's it. That's all I have to do. I'm not worried about anything else. Yeah, but pastor, how is this going to work out? Don't know. I don't know, but I don't have to know. [00:11:32]
See, one man got us all into trouble in the garden. And another man, the last Adam, got us all out. But then Jesus did something that no one else could do. Died for your sins, of course. Took the penalty. Somebody had to pay for it. Really? Yeah. Somebody has to pay. You do know that. But that's life. Nothing's for nothing. Nothing's for free. Somebody's got to pay something. Somebody's got to pay something. And there had to be there had to be the the just demands of a righteous, holy God. They had to be satisfied in that in that judicial branch of heaven, I guess, right? [00:19:34]
If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things are passed away. Behold, all things have become new. That word new, if you look it up, fresh, new, unused. It means new. I don't It's not refurbished. It is a brand new, unused, brand new item, if you will. And the creation, that word creation, original formation. He created something new. And we refer to that as the new creation nation or the new creation race. So, the Adamic race was brought to an end. [00:21:18]
And the Lord will say, "Fine, let's wipe it out and be done. Let's go on now. Now stay connected to me. I don't have any past. It's why people want to hear my testimony. You ain't going to hear my testimony. It don't matter. That guy's dead and gone. I mean, I I I respect and I appreciate the fact that people want to share their story, but at what point do you move on and say, "No, let me tell you about the new creation. Let me tell you about the man that's connected to nothing but God. Nothing but possibility, nothing but love, hope, peace, and joy and longsuffering, the fruits of the spirit. [00:24:40]
So, here it is. Communion Sunday. Vine life flows to the branches. It produces fruit as a matter of course. If only the branches will just stay connected. I am now a part of the new creation race. I am connected to nothing but God. Yes, I needed an earthly mom and an earthly dad to be born. Is any Wait, did anybody bypass that step? No. We all had to come to the earth the same way. So the simplicity of communion is this is that we are remembering. It says that we are remembering. We are announcing, we are proclaiming, we are declaring his body was broken, his blood was shed, and he died on that cross. [00:25:28]
So when we come to the table, if sin is the root problem and we're free from sin, if we've been put to death so that we no longer are going to be lorded over by the sinful nature or sin, then I'm coming to the table and I'm saying, Jesus, your death was my death. Your resurrection was my resurrection and your victory is my victory. This is good news for those of you who have come to a place in life where you say, "I'm at an impass. I'm at an impass. We fell out of love. I don't want to be married to you anymore." Don't quit. There's no no such thing as a hopeless case. [00:35:39]
Your faith is covenant. It's a covenant between God and God. It's not even a covenant between God and man. It's God and Jesus made a covenant and then you got drawn into union with it by fa by by grace. And so now here you are in this amazing covenant with God because God and God made the covenant with each other and all you have to do is accept it and say, "I'm a new creation. I don't believe I'm going to follow that that sorry program of of of pain and misery anymore. I'm not going to buy into that program of sickness and disease anymore. [00:37:53]
When I come to the table, you know what I'm telling myself is I am redeemed from the curse of the law. That includes Alzheimer's, that includes dementia, that includes heart condition, that includes arthritis, that includes all the other things. You just fill in the blank instead of buying into it and accepting it. Say, "Well, pastor, the Bible does say to bear your cross. What does that even mean? that you're just supposed to get up underneath anything and bear it and say, "Well, you gotta go some way. How about you just live out your days? How about you go that way? How about you live a long fulfilling life and go that way?" [00:38:29]
