Day 1: When Tools Bypass God’s Formation Process

The danger lies not in AI’s capabilities but in surrendering the very struggles that shape us. God designed thinking, praying, and creating as formative acts – soul-deep processes where dependence grows. When we outsource these to algorithms, we risk missing the vine-to-branch intimacy Jesus described. True growth happens in the friction of seeking, not the ease of instant answers. [07:07]

Day 2: Bezalel’s Chisel and the Imago Dei

Day 3: The Blessing in the Wrestling Match

Jacob limped away from his divine struggle renamed Israel – proof that God transforms through tension, not tidiness. AI offers frictionless answers, but discipleship thrives in the grapple: with Scripture, decisions, and unanswered prayers. Our spiritual muscles grow strongest when we lean into the struggle instead of outsourcing it. [22:08]

“So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak... Then the man said, ‘Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.’” (Genesis 32:24-28, NIV)

Day 4: The Sanctity of Unautomated Waiting

Bakers watch ovens. Writers stare at blank pages. Farmers wait for rain. These liminal spaces – often eliminated by AI’s instant solutions – are where God incubates trust. Delays aren’t obstacles to bypass but classrooms where we learn “be still” isn’t passive resignation but active surrender. [23:58]

Day 5: Iron Sharpens Iron, Not Algorithms

An AI chatbot can’t weep with you over coffee or recognize when your smile hides pain. Proverbs’ “iron sharpening iron” requires the sparks of real relationship – the kind that knows your patterns, calls out excuses, and stays present when answers aren’t easy. Formation flourishes in flesh-and-blood community. [27:21]

John 15 sets the whole question in front of the church: a branch cannot bear fruit by itself. Jesus makes it plain that abiding cannot be outsourced. The branch has to remain connected to the vine, and no spouse, parent, pastor, phone, search engine, or AI tool can stay connected to Christ on another person’s behalf.

The age of AI raises a real discipleship question. Artificial intelligence is fast, helpful, impressive, and a little scary. It can explain football in Shakespearean English in less than ten seconds, organize thoughts, clean up grammar, and gather information like a really fast encyclopedia. But AI cannot pray, worship, love, struggle, understand, or be led by the Holy Spirit. Powerful tools require wisdom, and the danger is not that AI can do some things for people. The danger is that people may allow AI to do the very things God intended to form them through.

Genesis answers the question of human uniqueness. Human beings were created in the image of God, the imago Dei. The stars, oceans, and mountains are beautiful, but human beings alone bear that unique privilege. AI may imitate the products of creativity, but it cannot bear God’s image. Human creativity matters because people create, build, solve, and steward as reflections of the Creator.

Exodus deepens that point through Bezalel. God filled a craftsman with the Spirit, with wisdom, ability, and skill, so that he could build something beautiful for God’s purposes. God could have said, “Let there be a tabernacle,” but God invited human beings into the process. The work was not just about the final product. The work was part of the formation.

Thinking, praying, studying, creating, wrestling, waiting, and connecting are not obstacles to speed past. James says that wisdom comes from asking God, not just finding the fastest answer. Prayer is not about getting the exact right wording. Prayer is communion with God. Bible study is not merely gathering information. Scripture points to Jesus.

The wrestle must not be surrendered. Jacob was changed in the struggle, and waiting often becomes the place where God reveals what cannot be rushed. Connection matters too, because AI can respond to a situation, but a mature Christian friend responds to the person. Technology can serve Christ faithfully, but it must never become the author of faith, theology, convictions, or relationship with God. Apart from Christ, nothing lasting can be done.

AI is a tool. It's a powerful tool. But the more I've used it and studied about it, the more I've realized that this is not a conversation about the tool. “James does not say, find the smartest person in the room. He does not say, find the fastest answer. He says, if you need wisdom, ask God. Because information and wisdom are not the same thing. Information tells us what is, wisdom helps us understand what to do with it, and wisdom ultimately comes from God. What about praying? The same is true of prayer. AI can generate beautiful prayers, And there's nothing wrong with those prayers because prayer is is something that we mean from the heart, prayer that we read in scripture. I can I can read scripture? I can read Psalm 23, and that become a prayer. But if we're using AI to craft our prayers, I wanna remind everyone in this place, prayer has never been about finding the exact right wording. Prayer is about relationship. It is about trust. It is about surrender. Prayer is communion with God.”
