51s
“Every wall in that sanctuary was was square because of the stone that nobody could point to. And I think that's close to what Jesus means today with Peter's confession because it becomes the cornerstone. Not because Peter was impressive, not because anybody could, like, point to him and say, well, there's a solid man. Build on him. His confession was solid even when the man carrying that confession wasn't. And so over two thousand years later, we are still standing on that confession, mostly without thinking about it, kind of the way you don't think about a foundation until somebody asks you to.”
38s
“And so our charge is to look to look at the rock from which we were hewn, to trust, trust the cornerstone even on days when you can't see it. And when the question comes, who do you say that I am, may the truest thing simply be given to you to say, the way that it was first given to a fisherman who whose name was changed, who didn't quite know how unsteady he was, but he was loved into a foundation anyway.”
37s
“And somebody, maybe that same somebody, is gonna ask you, who are you now? Now that the boxes are unpacked or now that the old answers in your life don't quite fit the new room that you find yourself in. And so our charge is to look to look at the rock from which we were hewn, to trust, trust the cornerstone even on days when you can't see it.”
