Sin kills relationships, damages trust, destroys property, harms reputations, neglects needs, and leaves wreckage in this world like muddy tracks through a clean house.

The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, the Lord. That gift means forgiveness now, reconciliation with the Father, and resurrection of the body on the last day. That same gift also gives life to the body now. The Holy Spirit enlivens hands for generosity, feet for worship, minds for good and rejoicing in the neighbor, and tongues for praise, song, and gospel good news. Good works do not earn the gift, but the gift makes good works alive. Through those works, the Spirit brings life into marriages, friendships, congregations, homes, and neighborhoods.

The road goes ever on, and the ruts of sin still remain along the way. Jesus Christ, by his gracious Spirit, keeps God’s people on the path of righteousness that leads to life eternal.

And Paul wants us to see that Christ indeed indeed frees us to live in Christ's righteousness. Christ has freed you from a rod, in fact your old master as a believer we live under Jesus. Sin was such a deep rut that it became master for you and for me. Everyone is born sinful. We call it original sin, and everyone is under the power of sin and cannot free himself or herself from sin's tyranny.”
