Bible Reading2 Timothy 4:1-5 “I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”
[49:01] [53:15] [55:41] [58:34] [01:04:14] [01:10:08]2 Timothy 3:1-17 “But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith. But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men. You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
[43:00] [47:25]2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 “The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”

[01:27:00]Observation questions- In 2 Timothy 4:1-5, what are the specific things Timothy is told to do with the Word, and what attitudes are supposed to go with that work? [55:41]
- In 2 Timothy 3:1-17, what kinds of conditions and behaviors mark the last days, and what contrast does Paul make with Scripture at the end of the chapter? [47:25]
- According to 2 Timothy 4, what do the phrases “in season and out of season,” “reprove,” “rebuke,” and “exhort” each call for? [56:48]
- In 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12, what is the stated reason people are deceived, and what did they refuse that would have saved them? [01:06:52]
Interpretation questions- Paul answers the darkness of the last days by pointing Timothy back to Scripture. Why is the Word the right answer to a deceived and confused age, instead of panic, retreat, or merely reacting to the culture? [48:25]
- Paul says to preach the Word “in season and out of season.” What does that suggest about whether truth depends on people being open to it, comfortable with it, or ready for it? [54:15]
- Paul joins reproof, rebuke, and exhortation with patience and doctrine. Why is that combination so important if correction is going to help people instead of merely harden or crush them? [58:34]
- 2 Thessalonians says people are deceived because they “refused to love the truth.” What is the difference between simply knowing truth and actually loving truth, especially when truth is uncomfortable? [01:06:10]
Application questions- Scripture is meant to flow in and flow out. Where might truth be flowing into life right now without flowing outward to anyone else, and what would it look like to start sharing it in a simple, faithful way? [49:51]
- The Word equips believers to discern truth from lies. What voices most shape daily thinking right now—Bible, news, social media, friends, fear, or personal feelings—and what would it take to let Scripture have the strongest voice this week? [38:44]
- Truth is still truth when it is out of season. In what setting is there the strongest temptation to stay silent about what God says—family, work, friendships, or online—and why does that setting feel hard? [53:15]
- Reproof and rebuke are not meant to be harsh weapons. When there is a need to confront sin in someone close, what helps keep the tone patient, hopeful, and grounded in God’s Word instead of frustration or pride? [56:48]
- Itching ears want relief more than truth. Where is the temptation strongest to look for teachers, opinions, or content that make a person feel better without calling for repentance or change? [01:04:14]
- Paul spoke about departure with calm faith because Christ was ahead of him. If life were to end sooner than expected, what would give peace, and what unfinished areas of obedience or trust would need to be faced honestly before God? [01:14:49]
- “Fear not, little flock” means the Father delights to give the kingdom. When fear about the world, the future, or personal weakness starts to rise, what would it look like to receive the Father’s righteousness, peace, and joy instead of giving in to anxiety? [01:27:00]
