#SpiritTaughtGospel
“Now, who taught you and I who awakened you and I to the simple truth of the gospel? The Holy Spirit did. Somebody shared the gospel with us, but we were incapable of being awakened to that gospel, but the spirit of God awakened us to that gospel. We believe that gospel. And so now we were taught the gospel by the spirit of God and what John is saying is there is no evolution to this gospel. There is no expanded version. There is no new version. There is no other version. What the spirit of God taught you, nobody needs to teach you another version now. This is not how it works folks. We don't encounter the gospel and then later on we get smarter humans and they tell us a new gospel and we go that's a better one.”

#GospelShapesEverything
“Once we have the reality of the true gospel solidified then that truth is going to inform what other things in our life. Everything. So if I know the gospel, it's not that I know everything, but now everything will be informed by this truth. And if I have the wrong gospel, then everything's going to be informed by what? The wrong truth, which means everything's going to be wrong. And so what he's saying is once you know the gospel, you know what you need to know about that. No one else needs to teach you anything more on that.”

#SameGospelNewDays
“And so what we do is we find ourselves on this journey where the not newness of the gospel becomes the great gift to engage in the thousand newnesses of my everyday. And it's the same gospel asking a new question about a new circumstance, a new relational dynamic, a new resource dynamic, a new thought, a new feeling, a new struggle, a new pain, a new whatever.”

#EmpoweredToLiveTruth
“if you belong to Jesus who do you have? The spirit of God and is the spirit of God giving you the capacity to go beyond your humanity and be able to know and perceive and understand things now in life and empowers you to actually do the things that you understand. Yes. So what he's saying to you and I is I'm not even telling you, man, buck up. You got to do this. What I'm telling you is, you've already been given everything you need to be able to engage in the truth, hold to the truth, live out the truth, inform your life by the truth. So now, just do it. Just do it. Why would do it? Because it's life, light, and freedom, and because you have the power of the spirit of God in you, showing you both the truth and empowering you to live it. Who wouldn't do that?”

#AbideDontBeTossed
“the scripture actually has a word for it. You'll be tossed to and fro like this with the waves and the wind. That's in James. Do you want to live a life where you're tossed to and fro? Nope. Nor do I. So let's abide in the real gospel. Hold firm to it and engage in that journey together. And what John's saying is, if you have the spirit and you have the word and you have the truth and you know it all, which is who he's writing to, then what kind of a person would be foolish enough? He's just asking me to then let the rest of my life dictate that this isn't a priority, this abiding. And I'm just I'm just taking that to heart and going, you're right. I don't prioritize this as much because it doesn't feel that important. But what you're saying, John, is it's everything. It's everything.”

#BelongByGraceNotPerformance
“And simultaneously, the complexity of this is that when you are drawing such a stark contrast of people that once seemed to hold to the real gospel, but now have abandoned it, then those who currently hold to it, the fear that can emerge is, oh, if they once held to it and have abandoned it, and if I choose to abandon it, then I will cease belonging as well. Right? And what John's doing constantly is trying to make sure that he is saying to those who know Jesus and hold to the true gospel, don't worry. Don't have this fear that you're going to abandon the gospel and not belong. If you belong to Jesus, then you belong to Jesus because he's made it so. It's not your faithfulness that will keep you belonging.”

#CommunitySustainsFaith
“And we know that when people are in community regularly throughout the week with others that are like minded, the sustainability of what they know to be true is exponentially through the roof. And when they're not in community, guess what? We know that holding on to what we know to be true fades quickly. So God just said, here's the deal. You know the gospel. Check. The spirit of God taught you that gospel, opened you to that gospel, and now is with you to both keep it and empower you to live it. And wait for it. Wait for it. I'm going to have you stay and abide in Christ in the ways that I've told you. When you do that, guess what happens? You and I live a life that actually follows the path of what we know to be true.”

#LiveGospelTogether
“Parenting becomes something other. And our journey is to take the gospel in its pure form and hold fast to that in community, in God's word, by his spirit, and then together, admonish and teach and encourage and equip each other to be able to inform more and more and more of our life by the gospel. And what he's saying is, you abandon the gospel, then everything goes awry. Or you know the gospel, but you don't abide in him, in his word, in community, then the reality is you won't inform your life by the gospel even though you know the gospel. You'll still belong to Jesus, but your life is going to get tricky.”
