Types of churches in Woodland

Modern Woodland Churches

Many congregations in Woodland emphasize contemporary worship, practical teaching, and a casual vibe, often meeting in updated spaces near Spring Lake or along East Gibson Road. These churches draw commuters on the I-5/113 corridor and young families in the southeast growth area, offering kids' check-in, coffee corners, and weeknight small groups in nearby subdivisions.

Spanish-Language Churches in Woodland

Reflecting Woodland’s large Latino community, bilingual and Spanish-first congregations provide preaching, worship, and family ministries in Spanish, with robust programs for children and teens. They’re active around the West Main and East Street corridors and near the Yolo County Fairgrounds, hosting cultural celebrations, ESL classes, and outreach that supports farmworker and service-industry families.

Historic Downtown Congregations

Around the Woodland Opera House and along Main and College Streets, long-established churches worship in historic sanctuaries with choirs, liturgy, and seasonal traditions. These congregations attract multi-generational members from Beamer Park and older neighborhoods, emphasizing reverence, community service, and continuity with the city’s heritage.

Rural & Agricultural Churches

On the outskirts of town and along county roads toward Knights Landing and Zamora, small congregations serve farming families with early services and relationship-focused ministry. Schedules flex around planting and harvest, and community life centers on potlucks, food drives, and practical help across the orchards and fields north and east of Woodland.

#BringHeavenToEarth
“But Jesus' plan was as the disciples saw him go up to heaven after he was resurrected from the dead, Jesus is like, now you go and you cast out devils. Now you heal the sick. You raise the dead and preach this good news to all creation and make disciples of every nation. My plan is not for you just to get to heaven one day, but my plan is for you to bring heaven to earth. The realities of heaven, the kingdom that Jesus established. He kept saying the kingdom of heaven is upon you. It's here now. The reality is that there's no sickness, there's no disease, there's no lack, there's no poverty. It's the kingdom. He owns a cattle on a thousand Hill. He has he is Jehovah Jireh, your provider. He can fulfill every one of your desires and every one of your needs.”

“If you're a Christian, God has given you authority. He's always giving humans authority. As Christians, it's pretty awesome, though. He's given us incredible authority in this world. Part of that authority is to love people. Love them the way that God has loved us. It's an authority to bring love into the situations of our life, for the relationships of our life. You know what? Another great authority of God is this joy. You have been given authority to bring joy both into your life and into the relationships and the world around you. And peace, God has given you peace and authority to bring peace into your relationships and your life and the world around you.”

#ExtravagantWorship
“Jesus raises them for the dead, do you not think that you would do something extravagant for them? Do you think that you would give Jesus an amazing gift? In the next chapter, they're having a dinner, and Lazarus is sitting at the table, and Mary comes, and she breaks this bottle of expensive perfume at the feet of Jesus. Now this perfume was a year's wages. I want you to think about your annual salary right now. And I want you just to imagine you got your annual salary and you're like, and the Lord says, I would love that to be wasted on me. And it's only gonna last for about five or ten minutes. Just think about that for a moment. That's what she did. She says, I am willing to take all of my savings. I'm willing to take a cash advance, and I wanna pour it at your feet. Why? You just raised my brother from the dead. What kind of gift would you give if somebody came back to life? So don't judge somebody's gift that they're giving. Don't judge somebody's worship until you understand what they've gone through, until you understand. And her brother is sitting at the table. He's no longer in the grave.”

#LiveNotJustBelieve
“you can believe in Jesus. There's lots of people that believe in Jesus. They're, you know, now scholars and now all the crazy college professors that are trying to brainwash our kids. They're all they're like, okay. We can't deny that he didn't live. We know there's too many historical documents that say that Jesus did walk the earth, that he did have this following, that he did die on Calvary's Tree. We know that this because you can believe in Jesus, but never truly live. Never be fully alive. You can believe in him. You can know facts about him. You can study about him. But until you fully surrender everything to Jesus Christ, you'll never fully live. You'll never have that life flowing through you. Paul,”

#BornAgainEncounter
“I remember going into a church service that morning, and suddenly the worship was so amazing. I'm like, I know who they're singing to. This is amazing. And the preacher's preaching a message, and it's hitting me right in my heart. I'm like, oh, this is this word is for me. And I was just on fire for the Lord. I just wanted nothing more. And I remember my wife after three days goes, hey. What is going on with you? And I'm like, well, what do you mean? She goes, you're reading the Bible. I said, but that's what Christians do. She goes, you've never read the Bible. And I said, well, I had this encounter with a real living God, and he changed me in my truck. And I didn't know if it was a twenty four hour thing. I didn't wanna get your hopes up. I know you've been praying for me. I know I've been trying to do it in my own strength, but he did it in his strength. He did it in his power. And I have been born again. I am filled with the spirit, and I am a new creation in Christ. Behold, the old is gone. Behold, the new has come.”

#TimeForAwakening
“Come on one more time. It's time for an awakening. Have you I don't know if God speaks to you in numbers, but every time I see eleven eleven, I think of this verse right here. And I'm I'll, like, take my phone, I'll screenshot it, I'll text it to a couple people, and I'm like, it's 11:11. And they're like, what does that mean? I said, it means it's time for an awakening. Jesus said, my friend has fallen asleep. I'm coming to wake him up, and I prophesy over your life right now. Some of you have fallen spiritually asleep. Today, you're coming out of hibernation. Today, you're coming out of your slumber. Today is a new day of new beginnings. A fresh fire is coming into your life right now. Some of you need to, alright, go ahead and poke your neighbor and say he's talking to you.”

#ReturnToFirstLove
“There's seasons of your life that you are gonna find that God calls you to be busy, and you're gonna be working, and you're gonna be doing things for him. And then there's gonna be times where God's like, I need you just to settle down a little bit. I miss how what we had in the beginning of our relationship. I miss that moment where you would hang on every word that I would say. Jesus writes a letter to the church in in Revelation and says, look, you're doing all these great things. You've got all these good works. You've got all these good programs. I love your outreach. I love the kids' ministry. Everything's good. And in the letter he says, but you don't love me like you used to. I hold this against you. I want you to go back to the early days where it was just you and me. I know you're doing all of this because you think that that's what I need. I don't need any of that. I'm okay. I really am. What I really want is a heart to heart connection with you.”

#GodIsOnTime
“How many of you are feeling the delay of God right now? If you're feeling the delay of God, I brought you good news. He's not delayed at all. He's right on time, and he's gonna answer your prayer. He hears your prayer. He every prayer goes up to the Lord. We know in Acts chapter 10 that Cornelius was praying. The Bible says that all of your all of your prayers, all of your gifts have come up as a memorial offering before the Lord. This is the God that sees everything. Nothing is hidden from his sight. Every tear that you have cried has been stored up, and he's about to redeem it all. He's about to answer your prayer. Do not lose hope. Do not throw in the towel. The bible says in Galatians six nine, if you do not grow weary in well doing, you will see a harvest if you don't give up. Somebody better give God a praise right there.”

#DelayForGodsGlory
“It's not gonna end the way you think. Jesus is giving them a promise in that moment. He is speaking to them in the middle of their storm, in the middle of one of the most trying seasons of their life, he says, your brother's sickness will not end in death. And I think we do this quite a bit. He says this, know it happened for the glory of God so that the Son of Man will receive glory from this. And so, although Jesus loved Martha and Lazarus, he stayed where he was for the next two days. Finally, he said to his disciples, let's go do go back to Judea. I think sometimes in our life, we expect it to happen immediately. You get a word from the Lord, and immediately you're like, wait. You're staying here? No. No. No. You just said my brother's not gonna die. Why are you hanging out for another couple of days? I don't get it. It must not be the word of the Lord. This must be fake prophecy. This must be a false prophet. Instead, Jesus was doing this. He intentionally delayed so that the God's glory would only get greater.”

#SayYesToHisVoice
“My tears matched her tears, and I just grabbed her arm. I said, father, in Jesus' name, I just command healing to flow into this woman right now. God, you sent me here to pray for her, and I just ask and believe that you are gonna do a miracle in Jesus' name. Amen. I walk out of that. I hug her. I walk out of the coffee shop. I get into my truck and the same glorious radiating presence that met me 09/18/2005 was there waiting for me in my truck. And I step into my truck, and I just begin to weep. I begin to cry. His presence was so strong, and I said, God, what in the world was that? And he says, Jared, I'm looking for a generation that will just say yes to my voice because they're always saying no.”

Why Woodland churches are unique

Rooted in Yolo County’s agricultural landscape, churches in Woodland often mirror the city’s farm-town rhythm—harvest seasons, farmers’ markets, and community food drives shape calendars and outreach. Many congregations serve a bilingual, multiethnic population, pairing practical help with welcoming worship through Spanish-English bilingual services, support for seasonal farmworkers, and community food pantry outreach.
With UC Davis nearby and convenient commutes to Sacramento, Woodland churches cultivate spaces that engage students, young professionals, and families alike. You’ll find a blend of thoughtful teaching and contemporary gatherings, including college student ministries, ministries for young adults and professionals, and modern worship with contemporary band.
Historic neighborhoods and a lively downtown give worship a distinctly local flavor, from century-old sanctuaries to community events tied to the Yolo County Fair and seasonal festivals. Many congregations emphasize rootedness and neighbor-to-neighbor care through traditional liturgy with choir, multigenerational congregational life, and neighborhood-based small groups.
