Types of churches in Milwaukee

Non-denominational

Modern music, practical teaching, and a relaxed, come-as-you-are atmosphere — popular with young adults and families who want a welcoming community without strong denominational ties.

Mainline & historic

Traditional worship with beautiful sanctuaries, choral music, and liturgical services — congregations that connect faith with history and a long-standing community presence.

Students & young adults

With the University of Colorado nearby, many churches emphasize student ministry — Bible studies, worship nights, and service opportunities built for people in their college and early-career years.

Family-friendly

Strong kids’ programs, youth groups, and safe, supportive environments — with Sunday school, childcare, and age-specific ministries throughout the city.

#UnansweredPrayers
“Fourth, sometimes lots of people are praying for the same thing, so it has to be shared. I just saw a documentary about an island in Scotland where a whole bunch of people went in together on a lottery ticket, and they won. But they had to split it. And some of them didn't end up with very much. You know, when you lay it out like that, suddenly answering prayers seems a lot more complicated. What is God to do, and what are we really expecting? When we think that through, maybe it's a good thing God is not answering all of our prayers. Garth Brooks wrote a song about this. Thank God for unanswered prayers.”

#ThriveInCommunity
“there's a difference between being able to stand on your own and believing that you were designed to live alone. That's a lie. You can survive without everybody, but you cannot become everything God designed you to become without anybody. I don't care how strong you are, how gifted you are, how educated you are, how saved you are, how much money you have, how many degrees you have on the wall. You cannot be your best self by yourself.”

“Verse five, commit your way to the Lord. There's this word trust again. Trust in him, and he will act. I love this. It's this unwavering confidence in God. We don't know the future. His ways are above our ways. Commit your way to the Lord. Trust in him, and he will act. It isn't you will act. It isn't I will act. It isn't I'll be empowered and emboldened someday to to do act. It's no. No. No. No. Trust your way to the Lord. Commit your way to the Lord. Trust in him, and he will act. That's a powerful verse for some of us here this morning. Be still and wait patiently.”

“``Do you know that most of Jesus's miracles never happened in the synagogue? Most of his miracles happen where? Outside. Most of his miracles happen in the marketplace. Most of his healings happen in the marketplace. Most of his healings happen where people were at work. Come on. Jesus has anointed you. Come on, lift those hands. Oh god. Come on, lift those hands. The spirit of the lord. I want to pray for some folks who are ready to be launched. I want to pray for some folks who are ready to be released, who say yes, yes, I hear the word of the lord on today and I'm I I have decided that today is my day of coming out. I received the message of Jubilee.”

#RejectScarcityFaith
“Because that's what most people are asking you to preserve when they say die to yourself and they're talking about not being queer anymore or staying in your place as a woman in the hierarchy. When they're saying die to yourself, they're saying, hey, don't let your bigness, your fullness outshine your place in the system, in the order of the way that we think things should be. That is institutional survival strategy. It is scarcity, and it is not what Jesus is talking about.”

#GodWorksWithinUs
“So what if our prayers aren't so much about trying to change God or get something out of God, but rather the act of prayer is God working in us? When we have someone who is struggling with cancer, we often want a miracle. But even in the bible, there's a lot of people asking for a lot of miracles And sometimes, it happens. But more often than not, it doesn't. Or, like, when the Israelites were in Egypt, sometimes it takes hundreds of years before God answers and does something.”

#AnsweredPrayers
“This was not my plan for this week. I feel chaotic. But the thing is, I can't say I was praying to get my bathroom or my kitchen done. But by the end of this, I realized I was the answer to someone else's prayer. My general contractor has several crews that he's trying to feed and pay for their families, and he had a gap. He needed my phone call this week so that his guys could be busy and could be paid. My flooring guy, he had nothing to do suddenly next week. My call was probably his answer to prayer, that now he has a job next week.”

#PrayerAndPerspective
“The movie showed us several truths about prayer. First of all, sometimes we don't really know what we're asking for. We don't know the consequences. We don't know if I get this then a b c and d is gonna happen to other people. So sometimes we don't know what we're asking for. Second, sometimes people are praying at the same time for different results for some current situation. Like me selling my house and someone wanting to buy my house. Sometimes, our prayers may cause harm to someone else even if we don't realize it.”

#FaithThroughTrials
“When we go through the Bible, there are places where we are called to pray and God says that God will answer our prayers. But Paul had what he called a thorn in his flesh. No one knows what it was. Maybe he couldn't see well. Maybe he had a mental health issue. No one has any idea what Paul's problem was. But Paul says he prayed three times for God to take care of this. Now if you ask me, I'm guessing Paul's prayers were pretty faithful. You know, Jesus said we pray in faith. I am pretty sure Paul's prayers were faithful, and God did not take care of Paul's problem ever. For the rest of his life, Paul had to deal with whatever it was.”

#PowerOfPrayer
“Now prayer isn't magic, but maybe our prayers aren't about getting answers, but letting the colors of our lives, the prayers of our lives blend together. Maybe our prayers have spiritual power, and when we touch each other, our power spreads through the power of the Holy Spirit. We touch each other when we pray, even if we don't know it. We may not get the answers we expect, maybe we do. But no matter what, we share God's power and make the lives of those around us more comfortable.”
