Types of churches in Joshua

Modern Joshua Churches

Contemporary services with live bands, kids check-in, and casual dress are common. They draw commuters from the nearby Chisholm Trail Parkway and families in newer subdivisions off FM 917 near the Joshua–Burleson line, with small groups meeting in homes across Briaroaks and along rural county roads.

Traditional Churches in Joshua

Long-established congregations near Main Street and along Highway 174 offer hymn-led worship, Sunday School, and potluck rhythms. These churches often serve multi-generational households with deep ties to Joshua ISD and the area’s agricultural roots.

Cowboy & Country Churches

Western-heritage congregations host come-as-you-are services where boots and jeans are the norm, sometimes paired with arena nights or outdoor events. They’re common along county roads between Joshua, Godley, and Cleburne, serving ranchers and 4-H/FFA families.

Spanish-Language & Bilingual Churches

Congregations offering Spanish services or bilingual worship serve families living along the Highway 174 corridor and nearby apartments and rental homes. Many provide ESL classes, food pantry outreach, and culturally rooted celebrations that connect newer residents with long-time locals.

Sermon clips from Joshua churches

41s
“And this Solomon who is not successful by anybody's standards, he goes and says, God, I want to worship you. And he doesn't just make one little sacrifice. It's not that Solomon comes and says, God, I love you. Here's one little lamb. Peace out, God. I'm going back to Jerusalem. No. No. No. No. No. No. Thousand sacrifices. And this altar, it's not a giant altar. It's it's not that big at all. In fact, as I was reading, it's only about seven and a half feet by seven and a half feet. So it's not that he's saying, hey, kill a thousand animals, pile them up, and let's burn these suckers. That's not what happened.”
33s
“``You know, forgiveness is not an optional part of the Christian life. It's very hard. I get it. It's black and white. If you don't forgive, he's not gonna forgive you. I I I get that. That's hard. But I said before, this is a principle in the scripture that we have to follow, and we have to learn how to do that. It's not optional. It's a necessary part of what it means to be a Christian. If we're gonna follow Jesus, we must forgive.”
41s
“And now Solomon is king. He's 20 years old. And can you imagine the pressure that Solomon must have felt in that moment? His own family is fractured, and he's seen what haps happens in his family when there's fractures. He's seen his older brother trying to attack his dad. He's seen the the chaos that can ensue in those moments. He sees the kingdom is split. We got top generals here. We got priests here. We got priests on this side. We we it's a mess.”
34s
“He knows that the enemies of Israel are gonna start coming down the knocking on the door trying to take the land of Israel, trying to take the kingdom from him. And he is only 20 years old. And he's like, what have I gotten myself into? Not only that, but the nation is at its peak. When you take over after the champ is gone, guess what? Everybody compares you to the champ. And so now Solomon's coming in after daddy, and everybody's gonna be like, well, David was good. Solomon.”
36s
“Instead, one by one by one, he's making these sacrifices. And here's the thing, that means it would have taken time. He wasn't rushing through these sacrifices. He was taking time to worship Let me just say, I don't wanna ever rush the worship to the Lord. We're never gonna be a church that's saying, we gotta get this done. Why? Because we gotta no. No. No. No. No. No. I always want us to be the people that say, God, I wanna take time and worship you. God, I wanna sit in your presence.”
42s
“Forgiveness is a wonderful gift. It's nothing short of a miracle. Yeah. Because we've been forgiven god's word and Jesus teaching instructs us that we need to learn to forgive others. Forgiveness is probably one of the most challenging but freeing principles that's in the word of god. If you've ever struggled to forgive someone or to forgive yourself, you're not alone. It's hard. Thus, the title of the sermon today, we're going to talk a little bit about the art of forgiveness. Forgiveness is about healing a hurt that you never deserved.”
27s
“Gotta give it up. You'll spend your whole life plotting, looking, and searching for a way to get even. Yeah. All that time you wasted, you could have been listening to what? The holy spirit guiding you, leading you about helping this person or helping that person or ministering to that person or doing this or that. You spend your time plotting. How am I going to get even? Yeah. You're never going to get that forgiveness and that release until you stop. Okay, I give it up.”
31s
“Carry those chains of bitterness around. You can carry those around if you want to. Those are heavy, and you can continue to carry that around as long as you want to. Is it is it waiting that other person down? Is it waiting that other situation down? No. Who's it waiting down? You. Me. It's waiting waiting me down. I have to let go of it. I'm not getting even. I give it up. God forgive them. Begin to pray prayers of blessings for them. If you'll do those three steps, I promise you, you'll begin to feel a release.”
47s
“Some of you have walked in the doors this morning with absolutely zero expectation for the promises that God Almighty has made to you because of things that have happened, because of things people said and done to you, losses maybe that youve suffered, hurt and pain thats come your way. You see those promises nailed to a tree. Life drained from them now buried in a tomb somewhere in your past.”
26s
“If you want to regain your belief, if you want to reset your expectation and the promises of God, you gotta start talking about your encounters that you have with God Almighty. Come on, some of you now to find people in your life and start recounting the blessings of God and stop relaying the prayer request. We all got needs. We all got problems. Lets talk about the blessings.”

Why Joshua churches are unique

Set just south of Fort Worth, Joshua blends small-town roots with commuter neighborhoods, so churches in Joshua prioritize family rhythms and weeknight connection points. Many Joshua churches emphasize relational ministry and kid-friendly spaces for newcomers settling into new subdivisions, offering small group culture, family-friendly service times, and strong kids programs for young families.
Rooted in Johnson County’s ranchland heritage—and shaped by North Texas’ severe-weather seasons—congregations often serve as community hubs for practical help and neighborly care. This shows up in hands-on outreach and relaxed gatherings, with community disaster relief teams, outdoor baptisms and picnics, and modern worship with contemporary band.
Demographically, Joshua is home to many young families and a growing Latino community, and it sits near colleges in Cleburne and Keene; as a result, Joshua churches frequently span language and life stage. Spiritual life trends Bible-centered and invitational, reflected in bilingual Spanish-English services, college student ministries, and expository Bible teaching.
