#ImagoDei
“I also think he just has a heart that really trusts that God wants to save and redeem people. I just think that he he wants people to be spared. We we see it even with the people who didn't deserve it in his book. He says, God, I want their lives to be spared. And and and then he sees the king as a person, not just a problem, not just an enemy. He he he sees him as a person. Look, we need to remember these fundamental and foundational truths for every person. You... As far as response is concerned when it comes to culture wars, this is where we must begin every response as best we can help it. These are the core truths. Everything else is secondary. Everything else comes after these. But we must establish that every person is made in the likeness and image of God.”

#WisdomAndTact
“And I love that that's the order of his response. I think there's much for us to glean when it comes to how he responded. Daniel goes on, and it says that when Ariach, the commander of the king's guard, shows up with this insane news, it says that Daniel responded with wisdom and tact. Right? He he doesn't respond, or rather he doesn't react emotionally with anger or anxiety. He he is level headed enough. There's something in his soul and spirit that offsets the fear. It doesn't displace it entirely, but there's something added to it that enables him to respond in a moment of chaos with clarity, with wisdom, with tact. So much so that this, commander of the guard breaks orders, capitulates, and allows him time to actually pray and discern the dream.”

#PointToJesus
“Right? He he he doesn't necessarily diss all the others. He just says, hey, look. The wise men and the enchanters and the magicians didn't have an answer. And here I have an answer, but he goes on to say, it's not because I'm wiser than anybody else. It's because I went to the one God who reveals mysteries. I went to the one God who, in his mercy, reveals these things. And and so, it's a beautiful conclusion that he wasn't caught up in defending himself or even his own life even the life of his friends. He wasn't caught up in defending truth or or dying on a certain hill or a certain topic. He treated this as an opportunity to direct that person to his God.”

#KingdomOfGod
“Before we get to any other responses, before we even get to our specific cultural wars that we face, we have to understand that there is a kingdom that endures forever. And there's only one God, one king of that kingdom, higher and greater than every other that will not fail. This is the bottom line. This is the truth that we build on. This is the foundation that earthly kingdoms come and go, but God's kingdom will last forever.”

#PrayBeforeReacting
“And I... It's just not the approach that many of us, I think, sometimes take when it comes to the culture wars. We have more a spirit of reactivity than response. And and it's so emotionally charged that we forget to do the spiritual basics that so often lead us to these conclusions. Before he ever approaches the king, before he had the hard conversation, before the tense topic, before the Thanksgiving dinner, before the Facebook post was posted, before those things, he says, you know what? Before I give them a piece of my mind, let me go and seek God's mind. Let me seek what's his will and what's his heart. This is his posture, and I wonder what would change. I wonder if our first response really is prayer and praise, and what would change if it was.”

#ConfidenceInGod
“Now, circumstantially, this maps to the story, but I think there's wisdom deeper than just the story. I think there's wisdom for us, that only then does he go and approach the king. And he approaches with a a unique confidence. Given the threat, given the decree, given the validity and the fear, he shows up, approaches the throne, and has just a a confidence. And and it tells me that his confidence is in something else. His confidence is not in Nebuchadnezzar. It it's not really even in what was revealed to him. His confidence is in his God.”

#FaithfulTransformation
“And and and we learned last week that in the midst of this, praise the Lord, Daniel trusted a sovereign God and allowed him to respond differently rather than assimilate and look just like the culture or separate and try to remove himself from the culture. In the midst of this, he actually strives for transformation. He he he doesn't compromise. He still strives to live faithfully and holy. Remember, holy just means set apart. He lives distinctly and differently, but in the midst of this culture. With his hopes set on God's ability to transform anyone. He he wants to live personally in in this foreign land, faithful to God.”

#OthersCentered
“It's it's the very people that we might be tempted to think if they show up, they bring evil with them. If we're not careful, we might project that strong of an opinion. And here Daniel says, oh, God, would you give us the answer so that they might be spared? I I want you to understand that part of what prompted his response and and what showed up first as prayer was his deep care and consideration for others. I mean, is genuinely others centered. See, we know self centered isn't good, but here we see a picture of a man who is genuinely concerned for the people around him and in front of him. He slows down in the response, and and and it draws him. It drives him into prayer. And it's in prayer that God then reveals what the dream means.”

#GospelTruth
“The gospel, the good news of the gospel, does not start with the fact that Jesus died for you for the forgiveness of your sins. That is a critical component, and it is the culmination of the good news. But the good news begins when Jesus brings the kingdom with him. The long waited kingdom that will never ever fail or fade showed up when Jesus showed up, and that is the beginning of the good news.”

#GraceAndMercy
“He recognizes that if God is to reveal the nature of this dream, it is always an expression of his mercy and grace. Because Daniel's not entitled to what God knows, and and and yet he knows that if he appeals to the heart of who God is, he says, but by your mercy would you grant us this gift.”
