“What what what I didn't tell you about was the religious self righteous brother who said, man, that don't make no sense. This boy got out there and did all this dirt and yet God Father father covered him and cleaned him up and killed a fattened calf for him. He don't deserve all of that. So the younger brother who was self righteous I mean, the older brother who was self righteous decided, I'm not coming into the house because God, the father, or the father allow the young boy on the outside come in the house. And since he's in the house, I'm gonna stay out of the house. So my question to you is, who is truly the prodigal son? We got religious people in our midst. You think you're better than what you really are.”

“``So I wanna ask the question this morning because they just celebrated seven days of ceremony. I wanna ask, are we simply living with the water of ceremony, tradition, of religion, or are we giving our lives to the water of the spirit? The water that the priest poured out was purely ceremonial. It was to recall, to help remember what God had done. But Jesus stood up and offered the water of the spirit, an invitation for life now, with God now, that is not just a seal for then, for later, for eternal reward, and not just power to yield wield or control, but to a life of walking with God.”

“And so yeah. So I ended up going to gymnastics class with my daughter. I I did all the things or tried to do all the things that she was doing, all the tumbles and the twists and the turns, and I I went in standing standing up straight. I left like a pretzel. hurt my back in it during the thing, and I think it took a couple weeks before my back to get more back to normal. But I will tell you what, I because I told my daughter I was gonna be telling this story on on Sunday. She said she said, yeah. But I remember that you were there. I was so sorry that you hurt your back, but you were there. See, here's the deal. When a when a boy knows that he's important to his dad, he knows that he's important, period. When a girl knows that she is treasured by her dad, she knows that she is a treasure, period.”

“These people are what religious folk look down on, but yet they did not know that Jesus' very reason for coming was to reconcile sinners back to God. Oh, the reason why some of us don't like to shout is because we don't believe that. We these people don't deserve to be in the presence of God. These people don't deserve to be saved. We look at them and we look down on them and it made me think why was was sinners so comfortable hanging around Jesus? What what was Jesus like to make sinners want to hang around it? Why would it be that they will hang around Jesus and not religious folk? Watch this. Could it be that the sinners thought thought that Jesus, even though he was convicting, he wasn't condemning?”

“``Jesus's point was, I want you to understand that it doesn't matter how low you are, I came to save you. I don't care how bad you've been, I came to restore you. I don't care what you've done, I come to clean you up and bring you in. And that's somebody's testimony today. As we get ready to come to a close, I wanna encourage you right now. Today, some of you right now, you feel like that prodigal son. I've gotten out of it out there and life has hit me hard. Can I tell you, God is saying, come on home?”

“Watch this. I like this. Text says, he saw him a far way off. as he did that, the father was up waiting and watching. The text says I need y'all to see this. The text says that as he got up, verse 20, he saw him and was filled with compassion for him. Watch this. He ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. Do you know how stinky that boy was? Do you know how dirty he was? But he hugged him. He kissed him. He still loved him because that's still my son. Oh, can I talk to somebody right now? Your child may be in something right now, but that's still your child.”

“``I described earlier many ways that the bible talks about the holy spirit. Let's just look at a few of how he is also described as someone that we can know. The bible says that the holy spirit speaks, he teaches, he guides, he intercedes, he commands, he reveals, he wills, and he loves. That's not a force. That's not a force. But it also says that he can be grieved. That he can be lied to. That he can be resisted. That he can be quenched and he he can be insulted. Oh god, let none of those things be true of us. Right?”

“``See, the story of scripture from the very beginning to the very end is of a god who wants to dwell with his people. Read the book of Genesis in the garden. He walks with Adam and Eve in the cool of the day. He wants to be with his people. In the Old Testament, in Israel, in the law, he institutes the tabernacle and the temple where the presence of God could dwell, where his people could gather, where he would meet with his people. He wants to be with his people. He so desires to be with us that he took on flesh. We call the incarnation of God, Jesus Christ, in the flesh, to live and to die and to be raised again to life, making a way for us to be with him. And in Christ fulfilling the law, we become the temple of the holy spirit, the temple of God, the place of his dwelling.”

“``And we have firmly established that the holy spirit is God. Right? God is not God the father who created God the son and then created this power force called the spirit that he gives to his son and gives to us and all of that. The holy spirit, as we have seen, is the third person of the trinity. He is coequal and coeternal with god the father and god the son. So the spirit of god, the holy spirit, not a force, not a power, not simply a seal or a guarantee, but the very being of god who has come to you to dwell in you.”

“Spiritual leadership is not passive. It is a hands on assignment. It is teaching. It's leading. It's setting the example. Tell me this, if you don't teach your family to love and worship God, who will? Their peers? The culture? Yeah. No. I doubt it. Fathers, your role is critical in the kingdom of god advancing in your family. And if you're a mentor of others, you don't have if you're not a fan father, you're a mentor of others, your role is critical. They need to see you setting an example of God being a priority of your life. And I think this is an area really as a church that we've gotta be very sensitive to. Now I showed you those statistics. Those are tough statistics.”

Why Cutler Bay churches are unique

Churches in Cutler Bay draw from a richly bilingual and multicultural community, where Latin American and Caribbean roots shape language, music, and hospitality. Services often blend English and Spanish and incorporate island rhythms alongside traditional hymns, creating welcoming spaces for newcomers and longtime locals alike. You’ll find bilingual Spanish-English services, Caribbean-influenced multicultural worship, and Afro-Caribbean gospel influences that reflect the town’s everyday life.
Set along Biscayne Bay and accustomed to South Florida’s storm seasons, churches here emphasize practical care as an expression of faith. Many prioritize disaster readiness, environmental stewardship, and gatherings that make the most of the area’s water and parks. Expect hurricane preparedness and relief teams, creation care and bay stewardship, and outdoor worship and beach baptisms that highlight the coastal landscape.
With family-centered neighborhoods and strong local schools, Cutler Bay churches tend to invest deeply in children, teens, and working parents, while also serving military-connected households from nearby Homestead. The result is a network of small groups, mentoring, and support that extends well beyond Sundays. Look for strong kids programs for young families, teen mentoring and afterschool programs, and support for military and veterans among many Cutler Bay churches.
