Types of churches in Calgary

Non-denominational

Modern music, practical teaching, and a relaxed, come-as-you-are atmosphere — popular with young adults and families who want a welcoming community without strong denominational ties.

Mainline & historic

Traditional worship with beautiful sanctuaries, choral music, and liturgical services — congregations that connect faith with history and a long-standing community presence.

Students & young adults

With the University of Colorado nearby, many churches emphasize student ministry — Bible studies, worship nights, and service opportunities built for people in their college and early-career years.

Family-friendly

Strong kids’ programs, youth groups, and safe, supportive environments — with Sunday school, childcare, and age-specific ministries throughout the city.

#SavedByGrace
“Whereas people who are not believers, they're scared. They're wondering, what I wanna do? Was I... And this... I got I got this question so many times. Was I good enough compared to who? Mother Teresa or Hitler? Right, there there there's two very different settings here. Was I good enough? Did I make it? We who are believers, we know that we made it because of what Jesus Christ did on the cross. There's nothing that you can add, nothing that you can subtract. It is the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross.”

“Don't be like one of those people, you know, where problem comes or a trial comes, and you try this, this, this, this, this, this, and there's no answer. Right? There's nothing. Nothing seems to be working, and so you double up and you try harder. This, this, this, this, this, this, this. And then you're finally, like, with a prayer group or something like this. Right? And, someone says, you know, what week have you prayed about it? And you're like, well, not really. Or, like, someone finally says, you know, we should pray about this. And, somebody else is like, has it come to that? You know, like, prayer right off the bat. You hear me? Prayer right off the bat. Like, bring god into it right off the bat. He says, I will call upon the lord.”

#ChooseJesus
“Knowing what is right is not enough. Eventually, the truth demands a decision. However you do answer this question will determine your testimony in this life because we know the truth and so many times we fail to share it. This is not about a better way, this is not about a political party or a person or a system. We're talking about Jesus Christ who is our life.”

#FreedomInChrist
“Today's message is only one point and that is you can silence the voice but not your conscience. We know what is true and we know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true. When we look at Jesus' words, when we look at the New Testament, we see that Christ has done and paid the ultimate price so that you and I can live in absolute freedom. And this freedom that we have should be shared freely with those around us.”

#BeyondFamiliarity
“So we have this familiarity of Christ. Right? And so many times, and I'm talking here to church people because we grew up in church, we know the songs, we know the hymns, we know how to shake hands, we know how to dress up, we know how to look good, we know how to say the right words. And many times this can happen to us who are sitting in here right now. Oh, I know about Jesus. But do you believe in him? Do you believe that he can change your situation? Do you believe that he can absolutely transform your life? Do you believe that he can do a miracle in your life today? Jesus is not limited to two thousand years ago. He is active and alive today.”

#JesusChangesLives
“Don't be that person. Don't be that person that has this partial idea of who Jesus is. He is alive and he's very much alive today in your life and my life and he continues to do miracles right now. Amen. He continues to do that which we know he can, where we can't change, we can't transform, but the gospel truly changes everything. It changes the person, it changes the behavior, it changes the circumstance, It changes the situations because we know that he has changed us.”

#GoAndShareTheGospel
“But in this situation, the middle of this passage now, Mark says, oh, by the way, and then he took his 12 disciples, paired them up two by two and out the door you go. You're gonna go out into the towns and you're going to visit every town and you're gonna share the gospel. You're gonna cast out demon You're gonna heal people in my name.”

#ShineLikeStars
“because small practices shape big lives, we will begin as individuals and as a church to shine like stars, as the apostle Paul would say. And to begin to take our eyes maybe off the mud that's on our sandals, that's maybe blinded us to the miracles that God is doing all around us. The miracles in God's provision, the miracles in our friends and family, the miracles that are happening in our church. Because all I can see is the thing that maybe bothers me today and blinded to the beauty that God is doing around us. And in it and when we do this, may the world see a church that signs like a constellation that points to the North Star, which is Jesus, and say that place is different because a complaining church is never good news, to a world that desperately needs it.”

#GratitudeOverGrumbling
“Negatively, it doesn't just stall our spiritual growth. It dolls our witness. A complaining church never looks like good news to a watching world, and a complaining person never looks like good news to people who are looking to us as followers of Jesus to show the good news of Jesus to them. Gratitude and avoiding grumbling and complaining. So gratitude is the, like, the the antidote to complaining. Gratitude will then lead us on mission and how God wants us to be seen and act in the world that desperately needs his hope and his grace. So”

#BreakFreeFromNegativity
“Because negativity often forms a blind sense of captivity. Because the Hebrew people were freed from their physical captivity, but were later frowned captive to their negativity. They were blind to God's freedom, blind to God's provision, his miraculous provision every day, and blinds to blessings, even water out of a rock because all they saw was their lack. All they saw was simply the things that they didn't have in the moment and forgot all that God was doing. See, negativity can bind us stronger than physical chains and can bind us from the beauty of God all around us.”
