Types of churches in Brazil

Non-denominational

Modern music, practical teaching, and a relaxed, come-as-you-are atmosphere — popular with young adults and families who want a welcoming community without strong denominational ties.

Mainline & historic

Traditional worship with beautiful sanctuaries, choral music, and liturgical services — congregations that connect faith with history and a long-standing community presence.

Students & young adults

With the University of Colorado nearby, many churches emphasize student ministry — Bible studies, worship nights, and service opportunities built for people in their college and early-career years.

Family-friendly

Strong kids’ programs, youth groups, and safe, supportive environments — with Sunday school, childcare, and age-specific ministries throughout the city.

#GraceAndReconciliation
“Because love in the kingdom of God is not proven by what it preserves but by what is willing to pour out. And the gospel follows the same pattern. What was most precious was broken, so that forgiveness, life, and reconciliation could be received by many. Church, he loved Mary. He loved Mary. But he also loved Judas. But he didn't... He desired for him to come back. He didn't want him to end up how he ended up. And today, if you're feeling more like Judas than Mary, that's okay, but he doesn't want you to stay like that. He wants you back. He wants to be reconciled with you.”

#RadicalSurrender
“We often want devotion that remains controlled. A measured obedience, a careful surrender, a faith that can still preserve a little back for ourselves, but that's not the gospel. Some of you have been holding back because of fear of criticism, but Mary didn't defend herself. She simply looked to Jesus. She ultimately gave away what would be her future with one costly act of worship. Some of you have been calculating the cost and you've concluded that it's too high. Well, look again at the cross”

#NothingWasted
“But we betray for the the Lord for much less all the time, don't we? One gave extravagantly while the other one calculated the price. One broke the alabaster flask while one broke relationship with Jesus. One's remembered wherever the gospel is preached, the other is remembered as the betrayer. Their value systems couldn't be different because what the world calls waste, Jesus calls beautiful. Many of us have probably been accused in this room of wasting time going to church, wasting your money tithing, or wasting your life on serving Jesus, but church, our... Jesus is our defender, and nothing is wasted on him.”

#JesusIsWorthEverything
“So, church, the question that this this passage presses upon us this morning is, what is Jesus worth to you? Mary didn't get the minimum, did she? She gave what amounted to about a year's salary which is, in today's terms, tens of thousands of dollars. And she poured it out in a moment of pure devotion and worship to a savior. Many of us struggled to give the minimum and she didn't ask what the disciples would think either. She didn't save a portion back for herself just in case. She broke the flask and she poured it out, and Jesus called it beautiful. She did what she could.”

#GiveHimYourAll
“So let us take note right here in this moment for our own lives. She didn't care what the room thought. She looked at Jesus and decided that he was worth everything. And this morning, I don't wanna step on toes, but have we ever given Jesus our everything even remotely like that? The savior of the world gave us his all. So why is it so hard to repage a little bit to him of our time or of our finances?”

#DoWhatYouCan
“Let's reflect on that for a moment that she did what she could because as followers we must do what we can. Not all of us have the same skills. We don't have the same finances or the background or degree but we all have the ability to do what the Lord is asking us to do. And that's not even asking a lot if you really think about it. But that's the expectation that Jesus places upon every single one of us in this room. Not what the person next to you can do, not what would impress the crowd, but what you can do with your time, your resources, and your affection, and your obedience right now.”

#BecauseHeFirstLovedUs
“But the last six years, I've come to understand communion in a new way. And I want to explain it today in the simplest terms I can, especially for the new believers in this room. Everything we do in this life should be because of what he did. Yes. We don't deserve forgiveness, but he paid our debt that we could never repay. He poured out his perfect blood knowing I would betray him time after time. And even with my failures and my striving for, he still died for us.”

#WorthyOfItAll
“Because the one who received the perfume would soon be the one who would pour out his blood for you. Church, that same Jesus who received the anointing now sits at the right hand of the father. And he's still worthy of extravagant praise and love and adoration. He's still worthy of the broken flask. He's still worthy of your years, wages, your status, your comfort, the control that we hold on to so tightly. The gospel tells us of a savior who's betrayed for silver yet gave his all for us anyway.”

#GoAndShareFaith
“If you feel like you are ready, that's great. Get to work. We gotta see how many other people we can help get ready to go with us. That's why we're here waiting on the Lord's return. You see, there is no call in scripture to stand and wait for Jesus to come back. Doesn't... That does not exist. Too many churches are sitting and waiting, might be even praying. Lord Jesus, return today. Well, do we really want Jesus to return today? In some ways, yes. But otherwise, absolutely not because there's people we know that do not know him yet, if he returns today, we will never be with them again. Instead, what scripture gives us is a constant call to go,”

#CompassionateEvangelism
“And in spite of all that Jesus had been through, the last series of questions, the fact that this group of people, all their hatred, their their criticisms of him, the reality that they're threatening to kill him, and they're actually going to in just a few days. Jesus is actually, through this question, offering one final evangelical outreach to those religious leaders. He's trying one last time to get those believed leaders to believe that he truly is the Messiah, the Son of God. That is the heart of our Jesus. He is still so compassionate as an evangelist as to reach out to the people that in two days, we'll have him hanging from a cross.”

Why Brazil churches are unique

Tradition meets innovation: The spiritual landscape in Brazil reflects both heritage and progress, with long-established mainline churches standing alongside newer congregations that emphasize casual gatherings and contemporary worship.
A culture all its own: Many churches mirror the city’s culture of inclusivity and connection to the outdoors, offering spaces where people of all backgrounds can experience faith and community in an authentic, welcoming environment.
