The scariest thing about ministry is you can learn to do it. What he's saying there is that you and I can learn to say the right things, do the right things, act the right way, talk the right way, pretend, and we can get results all without relying on the Holy Spirit. And I would argue that that's not just ministry, that's the Christian life. And if you'll allow me for just a moment, I think that that could be one of the reasons that pretending is so prevalent in our churches. because we can say the right thing, do the right thing, talk the right way, put on all the right faces, and we can show up week in, week out. Well, we haven't really surrendered. And we wonder why change isn't happening.

The text says, do not grieve. Because we do not grieve like those who are without hope. We have the expectation of seeing our friend, our brother, our father, our grandfather, our husband again. We have that expectation. Because that is what the Bible says. And God's word never fails.
