What good is it if you go to your breakfast table with your journal and Bible and coffee, but you can't forgive someone that's hurt you? What good is it? What good is it if you win a trophy for being so talented, but you don't love? What good is it if you get a new raise, a new job, a new car, a new whatever, but you don't love well? I propose to you that the greatest message of Jesus is I'm going to endue you with supernatural help so you can love well. And out of love will come my gifts. Out of love of the Spirit, there will come the fruit.

On the cross, Jesus will once again be driven outside the city. He'll be treated as unclean. He will bear shame, rejection, rejection, and separation so that sinners like you and sinners like me can be made whole. Jesus doesn't just remove our brokenness. He takes it upon himself. He restores shalom by absorbing, not just defeating the curse, not just by stomping on the head of the serpent. Jesus absorbs the curse. He restores us by stepping into our exclusion. What kind of king uses his authority to do this?
