And what's truly frightening about them is that their attacks, their influence is so subtle that it's really hard to catch it. Again, C .S. Lewis says, indeed, the safest road to hell is the gradual one, the gentle slope, the soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts, barely noticeable. If you were to boil a frog to death, let's say, I don't know why you would. But if you wanted to do that, you don't want to ever throw a frog into a boiling pot of water because it will immediately jump out. If you want to boil a frog, you put it in cold water first, let it get comfortable, and then you slowly raise the temperature ever so slightly so that the frog can't notice the difference until it's boiling and it's too late. And that's what the devil will do to us.
