The reality is that there are forces, evil, personal, demonic beings at work. And Paul calls them in verse 12, the rulers, the authorities, the cosmic powers and spiritual forces of evil. And what that means is that our enemies are not of flesh and blood. They're not physical, they are spiritual. And so we need to be aware of what is going on spiritually that is in our minds and hearts if we are to stand against the schemes of the devil.
