Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ began in the fall of 1889 with a small gathering in Aberdeen’s Opera House. By January of 1890 they dedicated their church and moved quickly to purchase additional property. The congregation worshipped in two different church buildings in the downtown area from 1898-1970. In the fall of 1970, they moved to their current facility at 431 W Melgaard Rd. With its modern and fully accessible space there was great excitement in the possibilities that were ahead for the congregation. The church has seen many ups and downs in its lifetime. Membership changes, financial challenges, and ministry opportunities have been numerous for Plymouth throughout the years. With each new generation Plymouth has worked hard to discern its path in fulfilling God’s purpose. Currently, Plymouth is Reaching Out to the Community in Kindness and Spirit as it looks forward to new ministry and mission opportunities in the community and abroad.
