To be filled with the Spirit is to have the words of Jesus and the story of Scripture dwelling inside us constantly. This is why Paul said in Colossians 3, Let the word of Christ dwell in you, richly teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God. To have the word of Christ dwelling in us is to be filled with the Holy Spirit, whose role it is to illuminate these words and draw us into greater intimacy with the Godhead.
