Paul simply says he chose us in him. This is another view, and this is more corporate, that God chose the church and he knows the ones that will populate the church, the ones that will be faithful to the end. The body of Christ, the Church as a whole, which God chose for his divine and gracious purpose, he planned to carry out in Christ. And while in the corporate sense, since this choice is unconditional and final, as individuals we must diligently be ever aware of our calling and election. We must be in Christ to the end. It's only those who are in Christ in the end that make it.
