We ask Christ into our lives, the Holy Spirit begins a work in us, but during that process there are still things that remain from prior to us receiving salvation. So as we are purified by that fire, those things are burned out, and what is left is those things that bring glory and honor, and that's the process that needs to take place in our lives. It is to refine us, to purify us, to sanctify us. Impurities are removed, holiness is produced and revealed in our lives. We begin to reflect the image of Christ.
