If you take that pottery that has not been refined and you try to fill it with something, it's just going to fall apart. So there's a process of refining that has to take place. That vessel may look complete, but it's soft, it's fragile, and it's easily breakable. It cannot fulfill its purpose yet. So in order for it to be strengthened and made usable, it must go to the kiln, the furnace.
